General Motors is is planning to roll out a zero-percent, 6-year financing program for most 2006 models as soon as next week, according to the Detroit Free Press. The newspaper said dealers and industry sources both confirmed the plan, which comes on the heels of rumors about a new incentive program from Chrysler. Both automakers are expected to roll out their summer plans in early July.

Like I’m going to BORROW for 6 years for the privilege of owning a GM car. You’d have to be so poor or desperate for wheels. This is not the way to make customers feel good about their purchases. “Yeah I got a G6 like all the credit wrecks around town” No thanks!!

Marauding Hun, for your information the G6 is not a bad car, I happen to love the coupe. Maybe if you (and all the other consumer reports readers) would stop worshiping Toyota you would realize that other car companies can do just as good a job (or better).

instead of ****ting on GM, do the math.
you’re being given the opportunity to purchase a vehicle – which you can likely chisel down the purchase price on, thanks to big inventory right now – and then use OTHER cash on hand for OTHER things – like, say, investing in your business, or upgrading your home, or some other capital-intensive endeavor.
friends of mine bought a 2001 Tahoe right after 9/11 under the “Get America Driving” thing from GM, and they paid it off in 3 years, interest free. they used some of the money they saved to purchase a condo in Mammoth.
like i said, do the math. if you’re in the market for a vehicle, these promotions make fantastic sense – it’s basically a cash purchase, deferred.

M who said the G6 was a bad car? Would you really want one if all the people with bad credit ratings in your town were also driving them? Slightly bad for the image.
G6 is also not a great car and I don’t believe it is in any way as good as a Jetta, Passat, Camry, Altima or Accord. I have never read consumer reports in my life as i am an enthusiast and trust my own judgement when it comes to buying cars. GM doesn’t make a single product I would be happy spending my own money on at the moment.
A decently specced up G6 COupe is around 30k before incentives, my cash is going elsewhere in that price bracket. I don’t happen to share your love of the G6 Coupes looks it is far too bland for my liking.

Still giving cars away huh? Gotta move the mediocrity from the lots somehow I guess…
And the G6 is a pile of garbage compared to the competiton. it is a flashback to the Cavalier. Certainly paying 6 years of interest for one nets little rewards

Jim in LA if you are a car enthusiast you don’t buy a car on the finance deal thats available unless it is the car you really want.

How is it for people with poor credit? They’re not Mitsubishi, they aren’t going to finance /everyone/ for 0%.

Only those with the best of credit will actually get 0%. Chrysler is rolling out employee discounts for everybody again..a rehash of last summer. GM’s program sounds a lot better and will generate a lot of sales.

um, yes, thanks Marauder. i am a car enthusiast and yet even so, some of us occasionally require the services of, say, a Tahoe or Silverado to handle life’s non-Mulholland Drive duties.
enjoy that passat wagon.

Al Bundy is correct… typically if you check the fine print on -most- of these 0% APR programs, it requires a top-tier beacon score to get the 0% offer. Bad credit, no problem – but high interest rate, not 0%.

Some people may need 6 years to buy a 40k truck or suv, beside the fact that most cars now take 5 years to get paid off.

Car enthusiast means you are enthusiastic about all cars. Someone who only gets wood over F430s and Enzos ia not a true car enthusiast.
I’d love a passat wagon as one of my cars, the styling and build quality is amazing. It’s also a great euro drive.
I’ve never needed a tahoe or suburban in my life, I doubt I ever will. I usually take my cars up angeles crest Jim its much more challenging than Mulholland with fewer tourists

I’m such a car enthusiast I get excited over new style wheel trims at model year changeover. There isn’t a car in the whole of GMs line up that they could give me at the moment. Well maybe a Vauxhall Though I kinda like the Pontiac Vibe as it is built in a Toyota Factory in California.

A true car enthusiast can appreciate any car. Even a G6. It doesn’t seem like any of you are car enthusiast.
Everyone is missing the point because of course instead of focusing on the topic people have to bash GM because of their ignorant biases towards anything American. The fact is this will sell a ton of cars. That’s the whole idea here. Good cars or bad it’s going to sell a bunch of them. Of course none of the hot cars will be included I am sure. Like Vettes, XLRs, Solstice or Sky or any other car GM has that is selling well without the gimmicks.
Also as someone said not many people will qualify for this incentive so don’t worry the white trash in your town will not be hitting the street with a new Escalade this summer.

Why is it that all the white trash wanna drive Escalades? Is it the “Mullet-mobile” of the 21st Century or what? Maybe being younger than 70, I don’t aspire to Cadillacs.

there are not to many cars in the GM stable that i can afford that excite me. When i was car shopping i test drove the cobalt ss s/c. its a very quick car, and has good steering. test drive one and im sure it will surpise you. the problem is that there is alot fo compition in the price range that is arguably btter. The new GTI comes to mind. if the Cobalt was 18-19k rather then +21K that would have a huge hit. i hope the genral gets back into the black soon. its better for everyone if there is compition in the market.

I’ve upgrading the programming at my price comparison site to include low-rate deals that affect the rebate. And I still have the Employee Pricing calculations from last summer–kept them just in case the manufacturers did again what they said they wouldn’t do again.
So once these deals are available, it will be possible to compare them to see which is best.

Hey Marauding Hun, why would you even bring up the G6, 0% for 6 years give the cheap bastards a chance at a better vehical than they could normally afford. Borrowing about 35 grand interest free over 6 years saves well over $100 vs paying current interest rates. Also the G6 is’t close to $30,000 unless you want a convertible. If GM doesn’t make a car your interested in your obviously a tree hugging frenchy french. The new Tahoe or Yukon are best in class with fuel consumption as well as ride. Most of there trucks are also. All major manufacturers have decent vehicals our there not just imports.

well it all depends on the bottom line. I bought my 98 after the sale and I got a great deal by going to my bank and giving the dealer discounted price. As of buying GM a person has to drive then for 300,000 miles to know which car is best. just a test drive and for 20 minutes don’t tell the story. GMs are and will be good for a long time. Unlike Toyota’s Honda’s and volks I find GM,s are better investments for PM cost. I bought an old Corsica and it got sold 3 times after I was done with it and finaly was totalled in an accident, everyone after me tought they had a great Car. GM hardly need any service wich I like.

It,s so good to read all thease comments, I have been a Chevy guy since I was a kid defending my Bowtie with pride.
GM needs to follow through better after the sale. It’s one thing to get a cool car or truck at a great deal, but it sucks when it’s always in the shop for a multitude of things.
We need to keep in mind the personal value of each amercians car.
Fuel consumption is something GM better get there **** together about.
No more dumb salesman, most of the time I know alot more than the manager about all aspects of the whole line he’s selling.
Take some of the ROBOTS out and give amercian people back there jobs.
