GM to offer Buick LaCrosse Super with Velite design cues

03/20/2006, 8:32 AM

By admin

A Buick LaCrosse Super sedan, with design elements from the 2004 Buick Velite concept, will come to market in the next few years, according to Edmunds. It will have a 300 horsepower V8 and an updated interior to differentiate from the regular LaCrosse. The “Super” designation signifies premium versions of Buick models. The introduction of this model is part of an effort to bring Buick upmarket.

GARGH! you may be reading this and think it’s a nifty move. Lemme tell you want’s really going to happen. Take an impala SS (5.3L v8, transverse) or a lucerne or a pontiac grand prix GXP, drop the engine out, and insert it under a lucerne. Now, fit a new set of crummy bumpers to the Lucerne to give it a velite front and rear end and keep the rest of the uninspiring car. Happy torque-steering! Nobody wants that car GM! The whole point is to get NEW buyers, not keep the few loyalists entertained. christ. The velite is cool because it’s a long hooded, short wheelbase, RWD convertible that looks like the legitimate heir to the roadmasters of the 50s, not the 90’s…. dmmt. They take it as just another excuse to produce another poorly conceived engine-swap and plastic recasting… blech.
