General Motors says that it will offer commercial buyers the opportunity to acquire compressed natural gas bi-fuel pickup trucks late next year.
Like its bi-fuel CNG Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans, the pickups will be available direct from the factory with the alternative fuel option.
“Customers want a choice when it comes to fuel because it helps them manage their business costs,†said Brian Small, general manager, GM Fleet and Commercial Operations, in a statement released to members of the media. “We listened and we are going to move fast to bring a bi-fuel CNG product to market to meet our customer’s needs.â€
The Michigan automaker indicated that the pickups, likely to be offered as both Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models, will be finished by CNG specialist IMPCO Automotive in Union City, Indiana, alongside the full-size vans. The automaker says that the CNG bi-fuel pickups will come with a full factory powertrain and bumper-to-bumper warranty and they will meet all EPA and CARB requirements when they go on sale about this time next year to commercial buyers.
