And to think, all the GM fans thought Hybrids were a" joke" and a "passing fad" not too long ago. It's amazing how attitudes change when the home team decides to catch up to the so called "fad"

Their dual-mode hybrid system is worth a look. And a test drive.

I hate ppl that are so damn negative about the American auto industry. Gm could have a real winner here a v8 hybrid is awsome. For all you closed minded ppl that think there is no need for a v8 hybrid! There are acctually ppl out there that use there trunks for work and somthing like this could really help them at the pump. This could even help GM make that turnaround even faster. Not every1 can drive a prius!

That poll that said only 25% of people think their cars are special is encouraging. The other 75% can ride around in their diesel powered cars and hybrid trucks and the people like me who enjoy every aspect of the automobile can enjoy our Hemis, evo's, AMGs, vettes and big luxury cars. i would love to see an entire line of appliance white ford and Toyota hybrids and my big pearl blue v8 Chrysler in the middle of them. And maybe a new yellow skyline GT-R in the other lane.

This is going to awesome! A V8 with a hybrid system!!... and i dont understand why some of you are staying that it wont work.. GM wouldnt put all that money and time into a system like this if it wasnt going to work.. that would kill their turnaround plan!.. GM has a great idea here!.. Plus these new trucks look awesome!! cant wait to test drive one!!
More great vehicles coming off the line for GM.. cant wait to see whats else is coming!!

(im still waiting for the announcment of a production CAMARO!!!... oh and that 900+hp Corvette [Blue-Devil])

This won't work, you dont match a hybrid electric engine to a V8, that wont help shit.

Finally!

This actually does make a lot of sense. Truck buyers need lots of low-end torque (whether they realize it or not), simply because the vehicles are so heavy. The traditional gasoline or diesel engine has absolutely no torque at a dead stop (0 RPM). On the other hand, electric motors deliver their peak torque at 0 RPM. Combine the two, and you've got a compelling reason for Hybid trucks.

You get the best efficiency from the electric motor when pulling away from a stop, while the engine can deliver it's best efficiency at-speed. In other words, you get the benefit of both. With a heavy truck, this tends to make even more sense than the same type of system on a lightweight car - even if percentages of fuel savings stay the same, the absolute savings is increased dramatically.

If there wes ever a niche where a hybrid would do the most good (fuel-economy-wise), it's in the medium- and full-size truck segment. I can't wait to see how these work out. I might actually buy one!

A good diesel gets about the same gas mileage as a Hybrid, sometimes even better. That's why you see a lot of diesels in Europe and few hybrids. We should work on developing better diesel engines here and getting lower sulfer diesel fuel so it'll pass our clean air acts.

Hybrids don't save nearly as much fuel as their proponents claim, but they do save some. A 5% savings in a pickup truck is much more important than a 5% savings in an econocar. This is good.

Nick, in hybrids the electrical drivetrain augments the conventional sysytem. It doesn't work on its own until the batteries are dead.

I've never understood hybrid trucks. A hybrid only works as long as it's batteries are charged. Once the batteries are dead (i.e. in about 5 mins when you're pulling a trailer full of stuff) the normal engine takes over again full time and it's right back to being a normal truck. Of course, most of the people who will buy this will never pull anything, so I guess it's ok.
