General Motors and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced the recall of 243,000 crossover vehicles, including the 2009-10 Chevrolet Traverse , Buick Enclave , GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook.
As NHTSA explains, the safety lies in the fact that a series of events based around folding the second row seats, and then later unfolding the seats and attempting to use the seat belts in the second row may result in a sat belt that appears to be properly latched shut, when it is in fact being held open.
The problem is to be remedied by modifying the trim shields which press on the seat belt latch when the seats are folded. This affects all 2009 through 2010 Traverse, Enclave, Acadia and Outlook vehicles.
NHTSA says the recall is scheduled to officially begin on or before August 31, 2010.
