Leave the history in the past. If you want an older model Stingray buy a restored one. The new generation of car buyers aren't necessarily interested in a cars past. Cars can evolve over time, so what a car doesn't come from the factory exactly how you want it. Put a lil cash in it, all is good.

A V6 in a Vette with the name "Sting Ray"
If Chevy wants to ruin the respected name of Corvette then there on the right track.
Put an all aluminum 427 in it pushing 700hp then you can call it "Sting Ray"
The vette is in a class of its own, no need to compete.

Personally, I like the idea of a high spec. Solstice with more power, maybe even a hard top ala the old mid 60's C2 Stingray. As for the name, I could care less. Call it "Jellyfish" and if the package is right I would buy it. As for the package: hows about light weight (tgt curb wt=2450), great (not good) brakes, adjustable suspension and a all aluminum highly tuned turbo version of the Chevy 4.2 DOHC straight six used in some of the SUV's like the Trailblazer. Those make 270hp in n.a. truck trim and could easily hit 340-405hp in mild turbo state of tune. Mount it on a slant like the old slant six mopar or the Porsche 944 so that it will fit. You get the smooth engine with the straight six exhaust note plus a step above the Solstice and Sky in performance. But, oops, this package would also smoke the Vette. I doubt that we will ever see that happen, lol.

Why not leave the LS2/LS7 powered cars as is, and introduce a Stingray with the smaller 325cu.in/5300cc engine? Still a V8, but distinctive in the smaller platform/different body shape. Maybe something that's somewhat less outright performance orientated and more a fun car similar to a Miata. That way you keep purists happy, have better economy (DOD) and don't create direct competition for your own product.

youve got be kidding me a new stingray on a solstice platform with looks trying to cross between a cayman and Z4 this is gonna be a disaster. the guys from chevy are gonna totally screw this up. if this accually follows through its gonna look terible! and whats with the priced high above the soltice and sky? if its gonna be placed on the same platform/chassis why would it be so much higher why would it not be in the same price range? because it has the famous sting ray name on it? it wouldnt have any more horses under the hood or any more torque. i would know i own a solctice.

first of all we don't have an offering at the chevy dealers in this market i.e. Solstice,Miata,S2000,etc. when we have our customers going over to other brands buying their products BECAUSE we don't offer them we count this as lost sales. Second most of these ideas i read about come from people that probubly wouldn't buy one anyway. I deal with these socalled experts every day. In the real world this car makes cents or may I say DOLLARS.
Third, if we were going to have a vehicle named Nomad it should have been the HHR . O by the Way I do own one I'm not just a talker I'm a real customer.Fourth, the cloneing across lines has been going on since the 40's,50's,60's on ,its more cost effective, plus why try to re-invent tha wheel .Cash in on a real name STINGRAY thats just sitting around. Hoursepower you say ,when 80's corvettes were at 220hp I say 260hp v6 with variable cam timing and 35 MPG would be GREAT!THINK ABOUT IT.

I am a Chevy nut and have had 2 57'Fuelies, and now have a '62 409 Bubble Top Bel Air and a 58 Impala Fuelie. I also own a Sostice. I am happy with all of them. Please notice I put the Solstice in with the classics. The Solstice is a great value folks and the Sting Ray will not be a great value. You don't know what you are missing if you haven't driven a Solstice.

Oh look, it doesn't look like General Motors can EVER introduce a new model without cloning it across product lines. No way to develop brand identity when cars are the SAME, maybe that's why so many GM brands are struggling and why the General is going down, and will most likely be the first domestic car manufacturer to up and disappear. Too bad....

I'm a huge fan of the C2 Stingray Corvettes from the mid 60's. Having said that, Chevy already has an awesome C6 Corvette and I really feel that creating a new Stingray that isn't a Corvette is just plain wrong. They should call it something else...call it the "Mako" or the "Shark"...just don't call it a Stingray because that was a classic Corvette powered by a V8...NOT a V6. True fans of the Corvette Stingray that want a modern equivalent will buy a C6 instead.

I think that Chevy could pull this off. It could be retro C2 Corvette styled with high-powered v6 engines in the 250-350hp range. This would not be confused with the solstice or sky and would make an SSR replacement that people would actually want.

While I liked the idea of a Kappa Nomad, like the very beautiful concept of a few years back, I do not like the idea of a chevy Solstice. GM needs to stop building 1 of everything off of every platform. Leave the Solstice and Sky to Pontiac and Saturn. Chevy has the 'Vette and soon, the Camaro. Here we go again: creating infighting and customer confusion instead of generating sales. When the customer gets so befuddled with all of these VERY SIMULAR choices - most often they drive over to the Mazda lot and by the Miata. If you build the Kappa Nomad - cool! If you give us another Solstice with a Chevy Badge on it - bad call.

What about putting a turbo on the V6 as well, so it'd have a turbo option on every motor? That would make it stand out from other similar models. Kind of like a Chevy turbo-something-i-don't-know. Remember the Corvair Turbo? But that was rear engine. Us old school guys would probably get pissed at that discrepancy too.

If they are going to make it. With the GXP with the 2.0 Turbo pushing 260 ponies. The V6 will not be enough at 240 HP even if it has more tourqe. Now if they stuff the LS2 like Mallet Racing did..... That is a diffrent story.

Calling it a Sting Ray is just wrong, especically if it comes equipped with a V6. Purists will revolt! If GM wants to resurrect a name from the past, they should call this the Chevette or the X15 Citation.
