GM to show Volt to employees at 100th anniversary celebrations in September

07/30/2008, 11:16 AM

By paulee

It seems earlier rumors were half-right, as GM will show off a near production-ready version of its Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid to employees as part of its 100th anniversary celebrations this September. The Volt is expected to make its public unveiling either at the Los Angeles International Auto Show this November or Detroit in January.

The company’s actual ‘birthday’ falls on September 16th, 2008, though it’s not known exactly when or where the automaker will strut the hybrid in front of its employees. For security reasons, no cameras or cell phones thus equipped, will be allowed into the exclusive unveiling.

The Volt is to be built at the company’s new Hamtramck plant in Michigan, says a Detroit News report. Its 1.4-liter gasoline engine, meant to act as a generator to charge the batteries, will be built at a new 530,000 square foot plant in Flint. The direct-injected and turbocharged engines will also power the Chevrolet Cruze compact car, which will replace the Cobalt.

A Flint City Council meeting set to take place on August 25 will consider granting tax incentives for the plant.

Maybe they could use Lutz as a pinata. Trouble is I don’t think there’s anyone at GM capable of wielding a big stick.

Holy guacamole, cinco de mayo is NOT May-heee-co’s Independence Day. It’s just the day that Mexico joined the rest of the world community in having kicked france’s sore äss as we all have.

Ah… the French… one of only two first world nations to lose a war to a 3rd world nation. Points if you can guess what the other nation is.

Cinco de Mayo is what is known as “La Batalla de la Puebla”. It’s actually the first day that the Mexicans beat the French in México. It’s not Mexican Independence day, and Cinco de Mayo isn’t very celebrated in México, but it is widely celebrated in the U.S. (go figure). In fact, the three biggest celebrations in México are:
1) January 6th – the day the Wise Men supposedly visited Jesus
2) September 16th – Mexican Independence Day
3) September 23rd – the day all the new Chevy models come out…

^^^last time I visited L.A. that operation was complete. I stopped for gas near LAX and no one in sight was “hubleing” any Englese, furthermore black (Afro-American) police officer suggested I get the flock outta there quickly, ’cause it was a war zone, not a green zone.
