Personally, I prefer my hubris with crackers. Considering I've lived on and off for over 4 years as an enthusiast in western Europe, I think I'd have to say I have a pretty good understanding of "Euro" cars. Thanks Szabla. I definately agree about the Fiesta as well. Don't know about the sedan, but the hatch certainly wins out over the Cruze.

Szabla, as has been said before, the Fiesta is in the class below the Cruze, it competes with the Fit and the Aveo. The Cruze competes with the Gold and the Focus, albeit the less expensive models of those cars. The Fiesta is an excellent car and I'm delighted to see it doing well. The Cruze is also a great car and I'm just calling out trashers when I see it.

And just because A4 names himself after an Audi, does not mean he knows Euro cars at all. His "assessment" of the Cruze is totally at odds with what the major European Auto publications have said about the car including Autocar and Car magazine, two of the best in the business. That leads me to believe he hasn't tried the car, or he simply knows fck all about them.

And as for A4 saying do a little God Damn searching on him...wow..hubris much? Are you king of the LLN forum sweetie? Awww Kudos to you....Kudos...

Rover,

The Fiesta will own the Cruze. As has been stated previous, Chevy likes to overlap product with similar product and dupe the consumer into thinking it's something fresh all the while they end up competing with themselves. Stupid, but classic GM.

Secondly, a friggin briggs and stratton engine could power a generator for a car....if it can power my house, it can power a damn car.

Thirdly, A4 knows Euro cars, as he has shown here time and time again. I travel to europe for business quite a bit, and yes I see cars there we can't touch. Get off your high horse please.

Rover3500, are you stupid? I had a Cruze rental with whatever crap petrol engine was under the hood. I didnt look. I was not impressed and I believe my assessment of the car is very accurate in that it is very similar in market placement to where the Cobalt as well as the Cavalier were when they were new cars.
Clearly you are also new to this site if you think I "hate" GM.
Do a little god damn searching before you throw sh!t around you have no idea about, I have supported GM way more than they deserve, and I fairly point out where they fall short - as in with this Cruze. Also, one of my vehicles is a Chevrolet.

So please, if you're going to try and make a point, at LEAST educate yourself in the most basic knowledge about me before bashing. I mean, you don't want to look like a total coc|< sucker now do you?

Of course you don't live in Europe. You compare the wrong cars.

1st Corolla is lot more expensive. If you pay an extra 5000 euro, yes you have a better car but if can do that you'll propably get a Seat Leon that actually feels good to drive and is a lot faster than the Corolla.

2nd Fiesta is a smaller car. Really smaller. 4m for the (very good) Fiesta, 4.6 for the Cruze. Want that in inches? 26.5! The fuel consumption is not different and this is the reason the Cruze is so slow. The gear box has very long... Whatever you call it. Ford might be faster put they are on the same price and while Fiesta is a full size city car, Cruze is full size family car - European standars.

None said Cruze is the greates, but for the price of it, this car is propably the best buy for a family man.

Firstly the Fiesta is in the class below the Cruze ..again cementing your total lack of even the most basic of knowledge of cars. Secondly, the Cruze beats the Corolla in practically every area other than performance and even that won't be a factor when the Cruze goes on sale in the USA as it will have the more powerfull engines fitted by then. And where would you have heard the diesel version bearing in mind you don't even live in Europe? Again, more lies and bullsh1t. The diesel is actually an excellent engine, smooth, quiet and much faster than the petrol actually.

So please, if you're going to try and make a point, at elast educate yourself in the most basic of motoring knowledge. I mean you don't want to look like a total retard fanboy trasher now do you?

"Suzukis have stability control…Tell me name one other compelling reason to buy any suzuki? "

Seems you missed the point. Funny that you say that about Suzuki though, as they produced the first generation Chevrolet Cruze back in 99 or 2000 or somewhere around there. LOL. I'll let you slide on that one though lil guy.

However, both the Ford Fiesta and Toyota Corolla cost less and get better mileage than the Cruze. The Ford is faster 0-60 despite having less horsepower and the Corolla was something like .2 seconds behind the Cruze's blistering 10 second 0-60 time. I can tell you that much and I don't even live in Europe! Sure the diesel get's 3 mpg better than the gasoline version but it sounds like a dumptruck.

But hey it's still a four door coupe! Pfft! HAHAHA

Yes d1ckhead but can you get all those things in one car for the price that the Cruze retails for?? NO is the answer asswipe. And A4 just trashed the car for no reason other than he hates GM. It was BLATANTLY obvious that he has never driven the car at all! And as for your loser post which focuses only on the equipment that the car has, not how it looks, drives, feels performs or the gas mileage it does. Its an excellent car so suck it up sh1tbag.

Suzukis have stability control...Tell me name one other compelling reason to buy any suzuki? hmm must order one now. Another loser than knows ZERO about cars.

1. My first benz from the early 80's had climate control

2. You must be kidding. Seats that get warm? Thought they only had that on the space shuttle.

3. Auto headlights? Welcome to the 90's

4. SUZUKIS have stability control

5. My toaster has ipod connectivity.

What's with the hostile comments towards A4? You thought you were the first to try out this "monument to human achievement?"

A4 you are such a lying sack of shit. I don't believe for one second you have evn seen a Cruze in the flesh, let alone driven one in Europe...hell you probably don't even know where Europe is.

If you had driven the car, you would know that it is an excellent small car built on a state of the art platform designed by Opel. The interior is probably the best I have personally been in of any car in its class. Its certainly the freshest design and its very nicely made.

The car handles and rides beautifully and anyone stepping into one from the Cobalt is going to be in another world. the difference is as great as The G8 was from the Grand Prix. Its an exceptional small car and it has a great stance on the road, especially with the nicer alloys available.

Its also stacked with features including everything from heated leather seats, climate control, 6 aibrags, stability control to the nice suprise and delight features like Ipod connection and auto lamps and parking sensors. It is without a doubt one of the best value small cars on the market cos what you get for you cash is exceptional.

How do I know this? Cos I have OWNED one for the past 2 months so I'm not sitiing in my moms cellar talking out of my ass.

So many douchbag haters here its not even funny.

"And plug in is the answer here?! ok so we reduce the use of gasoline in cars but then everyones electric bill goes up because it puts more strain on the grid. not too mention most electricty is made by burning coal, the cleanest energy going!!!"

*cough* car for idiots *cough*

well, really it's a car for "progressive" idiots. you know, the idiots in the front of the idiot line.

honestly, it's great and all that gm is competing with the upcoming first round of production ev's, but my money, and I'm willing to bet A LOT, is on complete failure and probable withdrawal within a couple years.

There's just no sense in paying that much for a car that beides it's powerplant is on par with other lukewarm gm desings that can be had for half the price. There's really no co2 or cost savings here, I don't know what they are relying on to sell these things besides the initial hype. Possibly get a couple famous faces in them and sell a few thousand. But once the honeymoon is over they will have wasted even more of our tax dollars just so they can have a "green" image.

I say let the niche luxury sports car manufacturers and other automakers who ARENT on the verge of collapse pave the way. In five to seven years, whenever (if ever) electric cars become a viable and somewhat mainstream mode of transportation, then start building them.

Not that I really care anymore whether gm commits financial suicide, there's just the issue of all the money that has been thrown at them. Hopefully they pay it back first. Just seems like an obviously stupid decision to me.

The very fact we are talking about a car(Cruz) that is not here yet, has not got half as many positive reviews as the Fiesta and is nothing but a slightly better Cobalt, which was just a slightly better Cavalier. GM continues to be in deep trouble. The fact is they don't have a competive small car and there is not one on the horizon.

Johnny, you ARE old. I'm on my way.

LWA, I think you and I are about the same age, although having a dad in radio sure makes getting music a lot different. I didn't purchase any music until I was probably 17, and that was some Italian/Spanish artist that my dad couldn't get for me. For the most part, I'd just ask him for something, and he'd bring me a demo LP or cassette, and then eventually they came on CD. Since he ran mostly carts, he would dub the demos onto the carts and then store the demos, but more often than not, he'd get two or three demos just in case. Heck, I even got albums before the public could buy them. What's funny is that I never thought anything of it until a few years ago, and I thought, "Damn, I was a lucky kid."

Anyway, I remember the investment for CD players, and DVD players, and all that stuff. It's always pricey. My dad bought one of the first 65" Mistubishi HDTVs for nearly $7,000, and now I can't even sell the damn thing for a measly $500. It's amazing how much the prices fall for new tech.

carbonsigma

it dose not need a turbo because the gas engine is not propelling the car an electric motor is.

the 1.4 would only be generating strait to the wheels at high way speeds and cursing at high way speed a 1.4 can put out more then enough. it would put out extra energy enough to recharge the batteries while cruising. If you need to accelerate it will use the energy in the batteries gained from cruising and decelerating (with is the same amount of energy to get it back up to speed (ideally if 100% efficient, wont be but 100% but close enough with the gas engine)

"and when dvd players came out they were over 100"

More like they were $800, just like BluRay. I may be dating myself a bit here, but I remember when DVD players came out, and people complained that the movies would be $20 each. Heck, our first CD player was about $500, and it's a POS compared to a CD Walkman now. My dad still has that old CD player in his radio station warehouse.

I dont think many of you know how to ready. In previous articles, GM has said they know the price will hurt it for the first generation, and the point of the first gen is to just get the technology out there, thats when the price starts to fall. No brand new idea comes cheap, i mean shit, a ps3 was 500 bucks and when dvd players came out they were over 100 now you can get them for 30. The price will fall. and they know that. And also, some still dont know that the gas engine in the volt will only be used to charger the battery and never will run to propell the car. It will kick on to give the battery power to turn the wheels.

Johnny, the Cobalt will only be built alongside for a few months to give it a proper life cycle. Plus, the Impala is a full size car, not a mid size.

To paraphrase the classic: Cobalt or not to Cobalt? Definitely, Cruze!
What a pathetic mismanagement of waste! If CAFE (one government entity) rated Volt at 500 mpg, then GM (another government entity) could spend 500 millions on the same support plans, they spend on; 230. Schmacks!

Umm... the Volt is using the 1.4 Turbo ecotec, right? How many horsepower does it actually take to charge the batteries? I don't imagine it would take that much TORQUE to run a generator. A little 2-cyl Honda generator will run my whole house in a snowstorm. The electric motors are what is turning the wheels.

Fear not my faithful LLN brethren but Chevy has already said they will continue to build the Cobalt even after the Cruze reaches production. So here we go all over again. Not only will you have the Malibu and Impala fighting over the same piece of real estate but soon we can look forward to the Cruze and the Cobalt tugging on the same blanket as well. Admittedly the Malibu was never intended to replace the Impala but the Cruze definitley was intended to replace the Cobalt. In either case all this is telling me is that they don't have the confidence in any one model to do the job so they have to keep a backup around. I know I'm inspired. How about you?

I agree with A4. The Cobalt was a piece of crap. My ex-girlfriend has one. And the Cavalier is even worst. Oh god it sucks. My best friend had one of those. My 96 Accent was a Benz next to that thing. I doubt the Cruze will be much better. For some reason GM constantly changes the name. They keep ruining the reputation of the name of the compact car. I also think GM is putting too much hope in Volt being a car that I don't think is going to survive in this industry. No one is going to pay $40K for a car that only gets 40 miles on a full charge and then needs 6000 RPMs to churn out 100HP for the motors, is no bigger than, and less refined than a prius. Not to mention the other issues mentioned by Car and Driver magazine if anyone read the article they wrote when they drove it. I can see years down the road the Volt being left in GMs warehouse of forgotten failed experiments collecting dust along with the EV1, CorvAir, SSR, Cadillac Cimarron, Pontiac Aztek, and many other models.
