Discovery Communications is launching an all-new “green” cable network on June 4 — dubbed Planet Green — and General Motors is getting in on the action to really show off its green credentials. GM will be the exclusive automotive sponsor of the new network, with its Chevrolet brand being the premier sponsor of the “Greensburg” series.
“Greensburg” will show the rebuilding of the Kansas town after a devastating tornado. One segment will feature the rebuilding of the local Chevy dealer.
“It’s a great way for GM to educate and inform consumers about all we are doing in the area of sustainable transportation,” Betsy Lazar, executive director, GM advertising and media operations, told Automotive News. “Planet Green programs will attract consumers who also want to know what GM has to offer in terms of fuel-efficient cars and trucks, hybrids and alternative fuel vehicles.”
In addition to sponsoring the series, GM has also donated three E85 FlexFuel Suburbans, three Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid SUVs and one Silverado FlexFuel pickup to various organizations in the Greensburg area.

WOW!
How Ironic
Wow, GM marketing getting its head out of its ass? Amazing!
Some interesting ironic symbolism between the rebuilding of a destroyed town and the rebuilding of a Chevy dealership.
The Suburban is sustainable transportation?
A whole network? The smug’s gonna be unbearable.
look out…televisions coming to a hippie near you!
and x2 on the smug alex
Stig. I’m with you.
All GM is going to do is use the show to plug their oversized gas guzzling trucks and monster SUVs. How is that green?
Now maybe if Honda had sponsored it…
Apples for apples, GM vehicles are every bit as fuel efficient as any other vehicle out there. Let me repeat that: Apples for apples, GM vehicles are every bit as fuel efficient as ANY other vehicle out there. Don’t believe it? You’re not alone. But here are some numbers:
Tahoe/Yukon 4WD compared to Totoya Sequoia: Yukon is better by 1 mpg (combined)
Silverado/Sierra 4WD compared to Tundra: GMC better by 2 MPG (combined)
Pontiac G6 to Camry 4 cyl auto: SAME (25 combined)
I could go on, but you get my point (well, I know at least one of you won’t get it), and I have to get back to work. The thing is, people give GM a bad rap for fuel economy comparing the Hummer to the Prius, which isn’t fair. Sure, Honda gets good economy (the Accord beats the G6 by 1 MPG, I believe), but so does GM, and it isn’t the wide economy gap that it is portrayed.

That is all!
