I wish Cadillac would buy a Genesis and figure out how to make one of their own and call it the DTS or Fleetwood.. The DTS is front wheel drive and lacks the power of the Genesis.. Sure, the STS-V has a power advantage - but that's a much more sporty car than it is luxurious.. And, it's smaller...

i just test drove the v6 and it is perfect. Great handling, it looks better in person and like the comfort. Inside is huge and roomy. All the stuff it comes with and the price is 32k I’m definitely going to get this car fore sure. All of you need to test drive this car. By the way LJ, sounds like you live in a hell hole, find a better place and move, it might be better for you.

I like the fact that Hyundai is taking risks and building what people thought they couldn't. They pulling the same moves that got Toyota and Honda to the top. This is ESPECIALLY what Toyota used to be like but is no more.

60-70 miles away? You live on a mountain or desert?

Comment by mrfu, posted on August16 at 3:20 pm ------------------------------
No, SW Ohio. In the country areas(farms, etc).
There is a Hyundai dealership about 45-50 miles away,(in Indiana) , but due to having to drive through a bunch of small towns( go from doing 55 to 35, ,go through small town of 500 people, about a mile or so, then drive for 2-3 miles @ 55 mph, then slow down for another 1 mile, though another 500 person town, etc...)...it takes as long to go there ,as to go to the one 65 miles away.Either way, it's around 100-130 miles, round trip.

Toyota has a store 35 miles away, and so does Honda.
There aren't any foreign car dealerships in my whole county!
There's only GM stuff and Ford( Chrysler dealership, after 82 years, closed the doors, late in 2007).
This town has about 15,000 people in it.

You want a foreign car in this county... you might find one on a used car lot..and that's it.

From what I've seen, looks like a great car. There will be tons of people buying this - can't go wrong with a 375 horsepower sedan with luxury trim for 35k.

When we owned a Sonata(04)..... it had window regulator failure at 31K miles, in March of 2006. I took it to the dealership(it was under warranty..5/60K, for bumper/bumper)....and they "Oiled the window gasket".
This lasted 2 days, and the window had to be pushed back up by hand(open the door, hand each side of window, and push up).

I had to call the 800-consumer affairs to get them to call the dealership(they sent an email, instead, saying to look @ the window regulator, and replace it if necesssary).

So, went back the following week(this place is a 63 mile drive, one way. The dealership that was 35 miles away closed, and this was the closest Hyundai Dealership, then) and they had replaced the window regulator(they ordered the part, after the email..took them a few days to get it from Columbus).

Yeah, such wonderful service for warranty items..plus the drive... no thanks. Never again.
There's still only 1 dealership(Hyundai and Kia), both 60-70 miles away.

I just don't know why anyone would buy a Hyundai or a Kia..they just say you're a failure. They aren't even that cheap any more which was the only reason why you'd get one. Seriously....who gets a hard on For hyundais. They don't offer a single thing that you can't get in literally dozens of superior vehicles.

400HorseSS your opinions are by far the most ignorant and worthless of any person I have ever met. Every car company has to start somewhere and Hyundai has just begun working its way into a more upscale market. The products they offer are very good value. I think the 100k mile/10 year warranty is a testament to the reliability of the products they sell. My Tiburon has held up very well over the 4 years I have owned it. Even having it at the track it has not given me any problems.

And I agree with Dr. Fill as well. Hyundai and Kia have both had some good vehicles as of late, but unfortunately not great. They both need an image buster, unless they want to wait nearly 50 years like the Japanese did.

That reminds me, I sat in an Elantra recently. I really like the styling, it's kinda cute, but looks different as well. Lots of space, drives pretty nice. Would like to see a more performance oriented version, maybe not WRX/EVO style, just something with a bit more power and sport. Overall quality was great- but, there were a few things that you notice. Small things like seat stitching, which look sloppy and look as if they'd easily tear apart. Some parts and panels were a little bit cheap feeling. Rear visibility was a little bit awkward for a sedan, but maybe that's just because I've become used to driving a wagon. Just small things that a few hours of tuning and slight changes could have changed the overall feel of the vehicle, minor grunts.

It sounds like Hyundai really put a lot of investment into the Genesis. It's too unfortunate they couldn't have original styling. Wait 10 years, maybe 15 just like the Japanese, but that's the only thing that truly makes me hate this car. I wouldn't buy it because of that sole reason, I just don't support that.

Great value, a little bit of a shaky start so far but going fairly well. And hey, it's great to see Hyundai bring such a car to this market, I give them credit. But sometimes I feel as if the reason the original Japanese luxury vehicles didn't sell was because of their copy-cat, nearly anonymous character. A lot of people had called them that when they first came out. They were also bargains and were acclaimed, with or without an eight cylinder like the competition.

Two Tings!
First Ting: If this car sells 20k, that would be a HUGE number. It won't. They sold 600 first month! An exercise for the sake of exercise.
And my #2:
They should spend more time and energy on actually making core vehicles people will buy and tell friends about. Sonata and Elantra sales have tanked over the last 2 years.
Hyundai sales have been flat for 3 years, even with SIX new vehicles added to the lineup!
What does that tell you.
That tells me stop chasing rainbows.

First Ting: If this car sells 20k, that would be a HUGE number. It won’t. They sold 600 first month! An exercise for the sake of exercise.
And my #2:
They should spend more time and energy on actually making core vehicles people will buy and tell friends about. Sonata and Elantra sales have tanked over the last 2 years.

Why do competitors buy these cars? So they can compare them to their own cars, and then do marketing campaigns that showcase the points where their own are better. Then they use the competitor car in commercials and demonstrations. GM will probably use this in their next GM Test Drive Tour.

A new benchmark?

yeahg, every1 should buy a genesis, & C how thiscompany can offer so mucjh 4 so li'l.

This is a premium sedan.
Tis caor doesn't compete with Avalon. It competes with Lexus Ls. And wins.

I'd like 2 C a RWD Buick

Hyundai’s products R much better that Lexus products.

GM president probably drives this car in secret & pretends its the butler's car.bought the car cause he wanted in his garage instead of any GM product.

rerone... i agree with you. hyundai's 5-10 years ago sucked but they're among the best NOW so i'm curious to know whats up with them in 5 years. i bet anything tho that they'll do just find and most ppl out there will end up eating their words. the company is huge and they're obviously not stupid. they're hiring all the Audi & Cadillac (CTS specifically) designers to make all their new cars and emphasizing style on Kia and luxury value on Hyundai. they'll be just fine...

I think the Genesis took some of the BMW and Infiniti styling elements and improved on them. Though its grill does look a bit like its emblem should be a "?". Not much design heritage to build on or screw-up from.

I must admit Ford is the company most in need of studying the Genesis. I liked the MKS well enough until I looked at the Genesis. Sadly, the Lincoln compares very unfavorably with the Genesis. However the Hyundai dealers around Houston look very lowbrow, not going to impress many customers used to Lincoln dealers. The Hyundai brand does have the steepest repair incident rate over 10 years of any of the major car makes. Have to wait another 5-10 years to know how much that is changing.

In an era of weird looking automobiles, I don't think that Genesis is worse looking than any other offering. Sure, it's derivative and Hyundai will continue producing derivative designs until it comes into its own.

megeebee, you are right, but I personally like the look of this car. Most of the new luxury cars that try to look "new" or "different" end up being ugly or goofy. Witness the new Acuras, Bangleized BMW's, Merc S-class, and the CTS. None of those cars will look good in 10 years, but this conservative design probably will. It looks normal, has high value, and a better warranty than any other car in it's class, and gets good mpg for it's size. People bash it just because it's a Hyundai. When Lexus first came out the rest of the Toyota products were archaic. Hyundai's products are much better in comparison, so this is not even as much of a stretch, really.

This kind of thing happens all the time. All automakers own a large number of their competitors products.

As far as the Genesis is concerned, I don't blame them. It is the very definition of "high value". There is alot there for the money...........if you can stand to look at it. To me, it looks 5 years old already.
