General Motors announced this morning that the company’s vice president of U.S. sales, Mark LaNeve, will depart the company to pursue “another opportunity.” LaNeve is perhaps best known for being one of the major catalysts behind Cadillac’s product renaissance.
“Mark has contributed significantly to GM in several key positions, including transforming the Cadillac brand and leading the vehicle sales, service and marketing organization during one of the most challenging periods in GM’s history,” GM CEO Fritz Henderson wrote in an email to employees obtained by the Detroit News. “Please join me in thanking Mark for his dedication and wishing him and his family well. A replacement for Mark will be named at a later date.”

LaNeve’s departure was formally announced this morning at a press conference in Detroit. The company will need to get approval from the U.S. Treasury before bringing in a replacement for LaNeve unless one is secured internally.

Henderson did not comment on rumors that company Chief Financial Officer Ray Young would be leaving the automaker.
