GM worker buyout tally climbs to 37,000

06/23/2006, 10:55 AM

By admin

The number of UAW workers from GM and Delphi who have accepted buyout offers has climbed to 37,000 employees, the Wall Street Journal reported today. A week ago, the number stood at 33,000 workers. The number of workers accepting the early retirement deals is greater than expected, the newspaper said. As of yesterday evening, 28,000 GM workers and 9,000 Delphi workers had taken the deals. The GM figure represents nearly a quarter of it’s UAW workforce. The offer ends late today (Friday).

Early retirement is one of the reasons our country is going down hill! Why cannot these lazy 55 year olds just stick it out for ten mores years, all they’re doing is making it worse for the rest of us!

actually, the early retirements might make it more apparent that our SS system is going to go bankrupt sooner rather than later. Stop playing politics and just solve the goddamn problem already!!!

f* the UAW.

If you don’t like unions, let your money do the talking. Don’t buy union made products. If you don’t like the UAW, don’t by U.S. assembled Ford (i.e. Mustang…), GM (Silverado, Cobalt…) or Chrysler (Caliber, Liberty…) products.

There are several US cars not assembled by the UAW like the Impala, 300C…

They also help work for living wage bills for everyone, fight for saftey in the work place for every one and fight for national health care for everyone. Since when is health care and a retirement plan an “obscene” benefit? Used to be the standard “American way” not too long ago.

“Sure, they also got us decent working conditions and LIVABLE wages.”

They are the one keeping it that way. Have a nice weekend.

Unions are no longer needed. Nobody will work for a company that mistreats them or does not pay well. They will leave to go to another company that does or not take that job in the first place. Unions were needed in the late 19th and early 20th century but they are obsolete now. Unions and their utterly unreasonable and unsustainable demands destroyed the American Steel industry and now are trying to eat our car industry which cannot be allowed to happen. If they succeed the only cars for sale will be dull, soulless Asian sedans and overpriced euro cars where the steering wheel will be a $1200.00 option.

I’m liberal and even I think that CERTAIN unions are crushing our economy, to put it simple Americans are getting more greedy and lazy. One reason the Japanese car companies always seen to have a leg up is because they aren’t resticted by greedy unions (however Toyota does have horrid labor practices) and the Japanese government pours huge sums of money into its auto indutrys (something that doesn’t happen here).
