Lamborghini, how can you say GM doesn’t have a reliable car? I see gm cars everyday with more than 100,000, 150,000, and yes even 200,000 miles. And I see those same people turn around a buy another Gm vehicle. Just about every GM vehicle is either new, or a couple of years old. Now everyone else is catching up to Gm as far as new styles, options. I used to own a honda accord and had to replace a transmission, which is reason i got rid of it. I don’t know what you drive but i would put any of Gm’s vehicles against it. I also own a GMC and haven’t found it to be a piece of junk. But hey, you have all the answers. The envoy is so ugly that they have sold very well since they have been out in 2002. If you want, go buy a pilot, civic, accord whatever. But know what the hell you are talking about before you open your mouth!

ANd yes BrokenCadillac, good point, there IS a new Pilot right around the corner, hell I’d take a current generation Pilot, the one that’s been around for years, over this new GM product, and when the NEW Pilot debuts…well, no comparison, no comparison at all. Honda will hold its ground just like BrokenCadillac says because Honda, unlike GM, understands how to make a quality product that lives up to the expectations of the people, a product that maximizes mileage wihout compromising decent performance in the class, a product that actually has an incredible looking interior (something the Pilot has had for years, tell that to the Envoy), and a product that is…gasp…RELIABLE! (a word that GM and GMC have yet to be aquainted with)

Remember, a new Pilot is right around the corner. And if the new MDX, (which is being compared to X5 and Cayenne in terms of handling) DNA makes its way into the new model, Honda will hold their ground on sales.

Nobody has tested these new Lambda’s so for all we know, they could be big, loafing, ponderous pigs.

I’ll grant you Moose about the Pilot’s cargo room, but I’ve sat in the back row fairly comfortably and I’m 6’0 250lbs. However personnally I like the Acadia, and hope it does well.

But you are forgetting that the Pilot has a tiny rear seat that is very difficult to get into, and there is hardly any room behind the third row. The Acadia beats it in this regard, and it is better styled inside and out. The Enclave and the Outlook also look better than the Pilot too. Many sales will be taken away from the Pilot once these are available.

The Pilot is probably the best vehicle to compare this with. Both vehicles are large near full-size, non-luxary, v6, 8 passenger, front wheel drive based crossover utilities. Loaded, both of them will sell in the mid to upper $30′s. GM has it’s work cut out for it. The Pilot is regarded as the best in it’s class by many. So I’m not sure the power boost and a better than Envoy interior is enough to change minds that you should buy the Acadia. It may be a bit over priced in this regard.

I’m not saying this with the intention of offending the truck/suv/van crowd, but I think the issue of styling on these vehicles is almost a moot point.

Even a nice looking truck is still a truck.

That’s why the answer to all of these questions is a Gadgetmobile! It’s a van when you need one, but becomes a Delorean for the other 90% of the time.

I think it’s a good thing that a non-AWD version is available. I don’t need, nor do I want to pay for, AWD. Hence, the lower base price than the AWD RDX that is being touted here as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

FWD is more than adequate in most situations, especially since this isn’t a sports car we’re talking about. I’ve driven FWD vehicles in the winter many times over the years, and I’ve never had a problem.

With a standard rear wheel drive (envoy) about 98% of the market on our area wants 4 wheel drive. With the acadia a front wheel drive standard about 65% will want the AWD. So the $3000 difference does come into play more than you think. And if you don’t have 8 people, than fold the rear seat down and use the extra room that the rdx won’t give you.

I give a shit if it seats eight. I need it to seat at least 2 per row for my family. I already have an odyssey (my wifes, so why would I want two? I want something that holds everyone and everything, and looks cool doing it all. The RDX is way too small and way overpriced. Styling is personal taste, and I hate the current RDX & new MDX. The Acadia and stablemates are getting a good look from me before I choose one of the three.

nobody gives a shit if this thing seats 8. its an afterthought to most customers, and if its their primary thought, then they will still look at minivans such as the odyssey before they go ahead and think of an SUV. in terms of consumer attention, this IS competition for the edge, and should be priced that way. The RDX also fits into the category of what a GMC buyer would want. The GMC nameplate is aimed more at males than anything, and they usually care more about form than function. Also, in comparing the base prices of this to the RDX, remember that the 30,000 base for the acadia is FWD while the RDX comes standard with the SH-AWD system. Their prices would certainly come into line when they add AWD to the GMC. Im not saying i dont like the Acadia, i do; its just that 30,000 for a front wheel drive SUV isnt exactly the most appealing price point.

This is the first GM product that I’ve even considered buying in a long time. I wonder how well it will hold up? GM is not known for doing it right the first time (or the first model year).

The Freestyle is not going away. A major refresh is due in 2008 with a new engine and a new transmission. It will also get the new Ford family front end (yawn). I would defiantly take one of these over an Edge.

It’s only 3grand more than a base pathfiner. Consider the 16/23MPG of the 266 Horspower Nissan. W/ the GM rebates you could probably get the same price.
I would say this vehicle should eat into sales of 4Runner, Pathfinder, and Pilot.

Ford Edge is not in same class with Acadia. I read in the article. (Size-wise)

I’d pick Edge over GMC. What’s wrong with the exterior of the GMC? Looks dated especially with euro tallights thats sooooo 1998.

Ford Edge is a sweet looking CUV with chrome rims, grille, foglights surrounding, and futuric taillights (un-euro like).

$30,000 is a lot of money, but for the vehicle it may replace (envoy) its pricing is similar. Two years ago a loaded v6 envoy was around $40,000, and a lot of people still bought it then. Now it a loaded v6 envoy can be found for about $36,500, and people still buy it. This model is a fresh design with a lot more room, and better gas mileage. The freestyle is a stationwagon that may be cheaper, but this model is going to be discontinued shortly. A pacifica campares more to a buick rendezvous, which sold very well with some models priced over $30,000. If you don’t like it, bury your head in the sand and go buy a foriegn model, just change the oil once and it will run for 200,000 miles easily.

First of all, stop comparing the Acadia with the RDX, a tiny car for tiny people. If anything the Acadia compares in size to the MDX, but not in execution. The SUV market is splitting into three groups:
- Need a big SUV because I have a big family, and need to pull a boat or a horse trailer.
- Need a medium SUV (really a crossover) because I have a family, who sometimes bring friends along, but I don’t want a minivan.
- Need a small SUV, since I only have two kids, and I want good gas mileage.

Nobody needs a medium SUV that rides and acts like a truck (Explorer). This Acadia gives GM a solid offering for buyers who don’t want the outdated Pilot/Highlander with their tiny third row of seats. What else is there in this class? Pacifica is getting a wacky restyle and the Freestyle already looks like yesterdays news.

I just do not get some people. GM has sold about 900k suv’s this year so far. This new vehicle will do what 90% of those buyers need out of SUV and get 26 on the highway. So this does answer a question that about a 1,000,000 folks have asked for a year (and that is GM buyers only).

A Toyota Sequoia gets 15/18!!! This vehicle kicks its but for 90% of the SUV buyers. The Highlander gets 19/25.

Edge is a tiny vehicle that seats only 5. The Acadia can seat 8.

It is not a “dead” market.

According to acura.com, the RDX starts at $32,995…for a 240 hp 4-cylinder. The Acadia has a 6-cylinder, and it’s base price is lower. I guess it comes down to what you “want” to buy vs. pricing.
