As with other models in GM's line-up, the Denali name denotes a more exclusive, powerful and luxurious version of an existing, more pedestrian product. The Yukon Denali is no different, and it is unique aesthetically and mechanically from its Yukon counterpart.

The major change is under the hood, as buyers get an exclusive 6.2 liter V8 good for 380 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 417 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. There are also two more cogs in the transmission, and the six-speed auto helps the big truck return 12 mpg in the city and 18mpg on the highway cycle, as estimated by the EPA.

Finally, all four wheels are driven all the time on the Denali, and there is no low-range gearing. A two-wheel drive option is also available.

The Yukon Denali is able to tow a maximum of 7,900 lbs.

As you'd expect, standard equipment is generous. You get cruise control, a remote starter, 10-speaker Bose audio system with subwoofer with 3 months of XM Satellite radio programming, leather seats, power rear liftgate, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, power adjustable pedals, universal home remote, 2nd row power seat release, head curtain side airbags, 1-year of OnStar, load-levelling rear suspension, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror with 8-point compass and outside temperature display and a heated windshield washer fluid system. The second-row bench seat is replaced with a pair of buckets, and the standard-fare third-row bench is now a three-passenger affair, as opposed to the regular Yukon's.

Options include 20-inch chrome rims, a Sun, Entertainment and Destinations Package that includes an AM/FM stereo with MP3 compatible CD/DVD player and DVD-based navigation, rear seat entertainment system, rearview camera system and power sunroof, power retractable assist steps, standalone sunroof and engine block heater.

The Denali is covered by GM's 5-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
