The full-size SUV that is the GMC Yukon gets standard curtain airbags across all models and trims after its introduction for 2007. The Yukon features a standard six-person seating capacity, with a third row seat as an option, giving it the ability to carry seven passengers. Four wheel drive is an option across all trims of the Yukon.
Two engines are offered, both V8s: a 4.8 liter and a 5.3 liter. The smaller engine is rated at 295 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 305 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm. Its fuel economy numbers are 14 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway in two-wheel drive trim, which is the only powertrain combination. The bigger motor makes 320 hp at 5,200 rpm and 340 lb-ft at 4,200 rpm and it is also available in a FlexFuel version, meaning it can take E85 ethanol mix to be a little greener. The 2WD 5.3 liter V8 is rated at 14 mpg city and 20 mpg on the highway, while the 4WD version only gets 1 mpg less on the highway cycle. Interestingly, when running on E85, the 5.3 is rated worse, at 11 city mpg and 15 on the highway on the 2WD model, and 14 mpg highway on the 4WD. A four-speed automatic is the only transmission available.
Two trims exist, an SLE and SLT, with two package options each, for a total of four distinct Yukon derivatives. Standard equipment includes dual-zone air conditioning, an AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo, cruise control, body-color side steps, head curtain air bags, power door locks and windows, seating for six on two bench seats, a tire pressure monitoring system and XM radio with a 3-month trial period.
Maximum towing ability is 8,200 lbs when buyers opt for a 4WD model with a 4.10 axle. The maximum on 2WD models is 7,400 lbs.
