General Motors Vice Chairman Bob Lutz appeared on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report mock-news program Wednesday night to discuss the automaker’s brand new Chevrolet Volt, which was unveiled just days before at GM’s Centennial celebration in Detroit. Though Lutz appeared a bit flustered at times – especially when discussing global warming and the “ Chevrolet Gore” as host Stephen Colbert jokingly called the car, Lutz maintained his composure and eventually made his own jokes.
In response to Colbert’s question of whether Volt buyers will need a 40 mile extension cord to drive the Volt on its 40 mile electric range, Lutz said with a straight face, “We tried that, but people kept running over [the extension cord].”

Lutz wasn’t so kind to environmentalists when he suggested that the kind of women Colbert could attract driving a Volt were “no makeup, environmental [women].”
