Crash avoidance systems – once only available on high-end luxury cars – have now begun their trickle down into much more affordable vehicles, such as the 2012 GMC Terrain.
Today, General Motors officially debuted its new camera-based crash avoidance system for the 2012 GMC Terrain, taking a slightly different approach than others and becoming the only such system in the industry to exclusively use a single camera.
The system’s camera is mounted in the windshield and helps drivers avoid both front-end and lane departure-based crashes through its constant monitoring. The system uses high-resolution image capturing and is setup to recognize the shapes of vehicles and to recognize lane markings on the road.
When a danger is detected the system will warn the driver with audible warnings, as well as visual display.
