DialM4Speed - I get your point, and I even agree to some extent. But how does one stop it? Laws? Ban outrageous bonuses and salaries, or set a percentage limit on their salaries with reference to the rest of the workers? They sound like good ideas, but that is not what this country was founded on. That is not capitalism. Shareholders can demand salary limits. And actually, in many corporations, including mine, there are limitations like that. There are many corporations that have outrageously salaried CEOs, but I suspect there are more that do not.

I would say the bigger problem is the growing number of people who feel they've been victimized. Everyone is a victim these days and they need to be compensated for it. That is in essence of why the Union is present, right? All those workers are victims, and the ones who aren't are potential victims. But the Union will step in and prevent them from being victims! The Union promotes this attitude, it's what keeps them in place. Keep everyone believing they are victims, and the union can help. The truth is, they are victims, but it's not the company doing it, it's the Union. Victimhood, promotes the Marxist philosophy. Create enough victims and soon you'll have everyone screaming for fairness. Fairness. Sound familiar? And fairness as we all know, means everyone gets the same thing...

Without Unions, these guys would be able to negotiate salaries and benefits. Rise through the ranks and maybe even become an executive. Partake in those bonuses and create a company culture that's proud of what they do again. Toyota and Honda doled out $20,000 bonuses this year to their non-unionized factory workers. These guys in the Union will continue to miss out as long as they feel and accept the idea that they are victims needing the Union to protect them.

i agree with piablo about the 50cent article. look at the type of environment the topic incited - and so rapidly. is that not the very reason pontiac should have nothing to do with that end of the industry.

DialM4Speed compares this to ford using country music in marketing. but country doesn't sing of hos and pimps or popin caps in people. its not racist, just the truth.

oh yeah, racism is a term that applies to *anyone* making a derogatory race-based comment - including terms like redneck. another fact

As for that Fifty Cent/Pontiac article it's just marketing. Same way Ford used that country singer to promote there trucks a few years back. Now just because you have a few ignorant retards slamming it because they don't care for rap well.... nothing you can do about that. I like rap from the 80' to early 90's but not Fifty Cent and the rest of the bunch that are popular these days. But I won't say people are stupid for liking it either.

Piablo I never said the people running a company shouldn't make more than those who do the work. My point was when those at the top screw up they shouldn't blame those at the bottom! If they are going to ask the guy on the factory floor to take a hit then they had damn well be taking some too! But all too often they take a bonus and everybody else get a boner!

HAHHAHA! On a side note... I just read through the comments, or what little I could on the article below this one concerning the "Fitty" Cent video and Pontiac. Talk about art imitating life! The majority of all comments were editied out because of god knows what kind of language and they closed the thing down. Hilarious. Someone call Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton! I smell racism!!

.

What does THAT say about the rap culture!?

DialM4Speed - Thus the Marxist point of view... Why is that all the business owners and operators always have all the money?? Because they are the business owners and operators. That's the way it works. Before you post about how much the white shirts at Delphi make, take a second guess at how much the union leaders make... Not only that, but those union leaders make their cash by skimming off the paychecks of the workers they supposedly protect. How's that for hypocrisy?! If someone has a problem with their business leaders making more than them, or they feel it's unfair they make so much, they can go get an education like the guys they despise so much and start their own company. Or take one of their positions. Otherwise, pick up a wrench and get in line. They'll never get anywhere by sticking with a union. Talk about a glass ceiling. Well I suppose they could become a union official and then skim off thier fellow workers paychecks. Hypocrisy at it's best. There's a whole world out there for those who are willing to put forth an effort and stop demanding they aren't given enough. For those who aren't willing, there's always the mediocre pay rate for the mediocrity.

LOL!!!! It's the same ol bullshit once again! Did anybody catch that last part of the story or where you all trying to think up a new "lazy union worker" joke? Delphi says they need cut wages even more yet at the same time there giving out bonuses to the people at the top that mismanaged the company in the first place!! Yet nobody so far has made one comment about this except me. These companies do this all the time yet nobody seems to ever notice. They say if we don't pay the top people they'll leave... SO LET THEM LEAVE!! Why is it the guy at the bottom who always has to bend over and grab his ankles when the people at the top screw up!

I was interested in 400horsess' post being from the perspective of a UAW worker, but once I started reading it turned into one long run-on sentence. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. I want to have sympathy for the proud tradition of unions and their workers, but if they're so lazy as to not bother using punctuation, maybe they don't deserve the cushy contracts that have gone on far too long.

I agree PrimeGTP, Piablo . It sucks but nothing in life is guaranteed. Least of all a job. Union members have this idea of entitlement because of a contract that was signed years ago. New contract, new rules. Unions are going to die a slow death unless radical changes are made at the unions.

^^ I would imagine so. Seal the deal now with what they have. Then again, this is the union, and they have not exactly been known to make the best decisions. Once talks with Chrysler begin, they will finally understand the true meaning of "concessions". Afterwards, GM and Ford will have a better position to bargain from in the future.
