Google says its autonomous vehicles have successfully logged 300,000 miles of testing without a single accident under computer control. Google is one of the leading developers of self-driving technology.

With those 300,000 miles in the rearview mirror, Google is moving onto the next stage of development for its self-driving technology - the daily commute. Members of Google's self-driving car team will now head out into the real world solo (rather than in pairs) and tackle everyday tasks like commuting to work.

The Google team is also setting their sights on more demanding driving tasks, such as driving in snow, interrupting construction signs and other challenges that might present themselves on the open road. Google is even adding a new vehicle to its self-driving fleet - a Lexus RX450h crossover.

Although Google's cars haven't crashed while under computer control, it should be noted there has been a run-in when a human was behind the wheel. A Google Prius hit another Prius during the summer of 2011, but luckily there were no injuries.
