The United States Transportation Department says that it has reviewed and approved all “eligible and complete” applications for Cash for Clunkers rebates submitted by dealerships during the program. Just 2 percent of all applications will have to be reviewed and resubmitted, the agency says.
Most of those 2 percent were simply incorrectly filed, according to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.
In total, 664,618 applications were received, and of those, 649,984, or about $2.8 billion, have been paid for by the program. All eligible claims are to be reimbursed by the end of September, LaHood told the media.
