Green light for VW Bluesport concept would mean Audi, Porsche versions as well

The Volkswagen Bluesport concept has made plenty of headlines since its Detroit Auto Show debut, so why should this week be any different? Following on the heels of production rumors, a VW executive has revealed that if the Bluesport concept does indeed make production, corporate siblings Audi and Porsche will also receive versions of the small drop top.
The move to offer the Bluesport across three brands should help to keep costs down and also keep the roadster in the black. “To make a strong business case for the new roadster, we need to share the investment with at least three brands,” a senior VW group executive told Automotive News Europe.
VW’s Skoda and Seat brands have been ruled out for a production version of the concept – due to its high cost of entry – leaving Audi and Porsche.
In Audi-guise, the roadster will likely take the form of the R4, complimenting the higher-profile R8 supercar. In the Porsche stable, look for the Bluesport to surface as a new-age 914. The Porsche version will give the brand a new entry-level model – slotting below the Boxster – and will help to reduce the marque’s CO2 emissions.
No production date has been suggested for any of the three models, but VW is expected to make a decision on the Bluesport within the next few months.

How slow will the Porsche version be? A V6 Camry can out accelerate a Boxster.

I’m so psyched for this Audi; the TT is such an awesome car its a shame that it has become such a chick car… as an R4 I would expect this thing to be a serious performance car.

I think this is good for both Audi and Porsche. the are lots of fans who like the tt and having something like the R8 but smaller will sell well. having an entry version for Porsche will be awesome! I can’t wait for all three of them to come out!

From what I have heard from Audi higher-ups, they are furious that consumers don’t consider the new TT a serious performance car like they had intended it to be. From a design standpoint you can see that they really wanted it to be considered a baby R8- the steering whell, seats and rearview mirrors are all exactly the same in both cars.
It makes perfect sense that they would drop the name and build a mid-engine successor. What a car it would be! I small, balanced sport coupe with the turbo 4 which is capible of 300+hp with minor mods!!

The problem with the TT is that it looks almost the same whether it’s coming or going. It’s like coming up behind some of those guys with long, straight hair that you can’t quite tell it’s a guy until they turn around and he has a beard*. A lot of people just don’t know what to make of the TT.
*By the way, this is in no way intended to imply I spend undue amounts of time in pursuit of men fitting said description.

Why is VW group jumping on the rebadging wagon all of the sudden? Next thing ya know VW/Audi/Porsche is going to be like Ford/Lincoln/Mercury. I don’t like the looks of this plan.

Why the hell would they need an Audi and a Porsche version? Audi already has the TT and Porsche has everything else. This should have just been for Volkswagen. Awesome looking car though.

TT is a joke, and you know who the joke is on? That’s right, the chics — I mean, the people who paid big bucks for them. Genesis will come along and eat the lunch of all turbo-crap, FWD Audi’s. R8 is produced in such small numbers as to be functionally irrelevant.
Porsche risks depleting its mystique with Blahsport. VW and Audi stand only to gain.

So… a $40,000 Porsche? Well… I guess the diver of said car won’t feel so bad when I dust him with my Cobalt SS.

Tyler- this would be a REPLACEMENT for the TT…
idrinorbarsaku- There will not be sideblades- I can garuntee that- they are too controversial
howsmydriving – Once again what a useless post- can you have any opinion about something other than “it costs too much”?? There is no other sportscar on the market that has the interior fit and finish, saftey, and driveability of the TT. The chicks drive it because it is so comfortable, and along with looks that is what matters most to them- not that it is .4 second faster than whatever on a track.

I want to see the 914, and the 928 come back for that matter. To this day, I think having an R4 that’s more sport orientated and having a 914 would be a mistake as they will canibalize each others sales.
The TT is a more touring car, that has no direct competition at its price, which is not that high considering it’s an attractive, very much a luxury coupe. Although it’s lightly ( i said lightly, I know about it’s aluminum parts) based on the Golf/Rabbit/Jetta, it’s still a good drive.
Also, I think someone in a Porsche would care if it was being beaten by a Cobalt, especially a stock one. Their ego would die a slow painful death.
p.s. JM makes NMOFGM look like a genius. Keep your mean comments to youself you arrogant a$$

I hear this arugument that Audi and Porsche canabalize each other sales, and I dissagree… from what I’ve seen while working at a Porsche/Audi dealership is that the porsche buyer and Audi buyer are totally different people. I lost an R8 sale because the customer thought his 911 was more fun to drive than the R8, and it was too comfortable. Everyone thought the Q7 would ruin Cayenne sales, and it hasn’t at all. I almost never have customers cross shop with Porsche.
… and no, porsche drivers don’t give a **** about retard teenages trying to dragrace at stoplights. If they gave a **** about how powerful thier car is they would have bought a corvette.

Johnny, i would of hoped your disclaimer would have been you spend NO time in pursuit of men, not just undue
but yea, the TT is nice but it is a total chick car. Kind of like the EOS. It is fun to drive, but it looks gay as helll for a dude to be drving. This car has some good cuts to it that make it look meaner and says get the F out of its way in a not so polite way.

JonMiles… tell that to the guy who tried oh so hard to outrun me at the light this morning. Even the yuppies with their Boxsters and S2000s try to pick on modded econoboxes. I make ‘em think twice before they do it again.
If it has the Porsche crest on the hood… it had better be able to outrun a 4-banger Chevy.

RaineMan; Owning a porsche has nothing to do with straight line speed. When you drive as many high end cars as I do, you realize that you become pretty numb to straightline acceleration… the first time I drove a GT2 I thought it was insanely fast, but now it just seems so-so.
Porsche understands that a true sports car enthusiast appreciates a lot more than just a powerful motor.
