NEW FUTURE MARKET
  • GT5 “Nights” trailer hits the Web

By Drew Johnson - Posted March 9th 2010

The Gran Turismo series is arguably the greatest driving simulator to ever grace the home gaming platform, but fans of the racing franchise have been left high and dry as Sony and Polyphony continually delay the launch of GT5.

Fans were promised the fifth iteration of the Gran Turismo series several times during 2009, including what appeared to be a very believable December launch — just in time for the Christmas holiday. However, none of those launch dates came to fruition, leaving driving fans to search out other racing titles.

While we still don’t have GT5 in our hands yet, it appears we are finally getting close. A new trailer for Gran Turismo 5 has hit the Web, highlighting what looks to be a nearly complete game. Unlike past GT games, the fifth installment will include visual damage as well as NASCAR racing. Here’s to hoping GT5 hits the market sometime before we have to upgrade to PS4.

Nice seeing the R8 hot on the tail of the Ferrari at 2:10…

i noticed that too. For such a realistic game, maybe they should focus less on graphics and more on actual car performance.

Ya never know reedfast, it might be a granny driving the Ferrari and that’s why the R8 is having to step on the breaks. ;)

      Lets see….which will occur first?

      A) Toyota will recover from the unintended acceleration incident
      B) Starcraft 2 will come out
      C) California’s economy will recover
      D) GranTurismo 5 will come out
      E) Chrysler will be making good cars
      F) Dr. Fill will stop supporting Toyota

Anyone care to put these events in order from what will happen 1st to what will happen last?

I think that D will occur first. After a 5 year period B will occur, then E. C will happen sometime after E, and ten years after that A might happen. And F will never happen.

This game will be great but Unfortunately will not be able to live up to the hype that has been engulfing it for years.

Hopefully it’s quicker to come out than Duke Nukem Forever. 13 years and I still don’t see it on shelves.

I would just buy NFS Carbon, it’s got awesome graphics and pretty good controller setup. I wouldn’t spend $60 for it. No game is worth that. I’ll just download the testers for free on my PS3 until the full version is $20.

      The music is terrible.

And how much did Mercedes or AMG pay for all that exposure?

i was thinkin the same thing beat… for the first half i was convinced i was watching a cheesy MB ad. This took way too long to come out and STILL isnt here. Ill settle with NFS shift…decent graphics, they got the damage down about right, and which equipped with steering column with the pedals and paddle shifters, its quite the experiencez

dont hold your breath on this one…. forza 3 is better.
i will concede that the graphics look spectacular, but this franchise is no longer the last word for racing sims.

      I agree Forza 3 is a great game, but I can’t say on GT5 because i haven’t played it

I’ve been waiting so long for this game. Too long. Seriously, they’ve wasted years thoroughly mapping detailed interiors of vehicles that have no business being in a racing sim, like minivans and light trucks. Then they go and add NASCAR to it? I’m used to things being too little too late, but in this case it’ll be too much too late. I’ll still buy it and enjoy it sure, but I should have done it over a year ago and they could have made money selling stuff I don’t care about as downloadable content to people who do want it.

It takes a real big fanboy to claim that Forza 3 is better than GT5 when he hasn’t even played the latter.

graphically it looks super clean, if that’s the intent — just like a slick automotive commercial.

personally I prefer my driving experiences a little raw, dirty, and real — but I keep hoping Turismo will come out with the goods. however, after playing Prologue and the GT5 demo, it’s hard to see any improvements, aside from having the most detailed cars. bearing in mind there is a lot more to a ‘simulator’ than a pretty picture.

more importantly, the steering and pedal controls are for sh!t, I doubt they’ve tested them on a good range of hardware, and there are no settings for making adjustments.

thanks to all the hype/suspense they’ve kept us hanging on, most kiddies will just get daddy to buy this at xmas, and throwaway a load of cash on a game that will be shelved after only a few hours play.
sure, they’ll sell buckets of them, but I predict they’ll be New&Used on Amazon @ $10.99 by January.

as for the GT franchise, no game series is immortal — with Forza now hot on GT’s tail, if they don’t do it properly this time round, GT6 will crash and burn long before it’s released.
if rumours about Turn10 releasing Forza on PS3 came true, Polyphony’s demise may well be assured…
