Former Audi engineer Roland Gumpert's Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH produces the high-dollar, high-performance, gullwinged Apollo supercar. The Apollo, essentially a race car for the street, puts speed and grip above all else - something that is obvious in its aerodynamic styling.

Various louvers and slats provide air to cool the massive brakes and Audi-sourced 4.2 liter twin-turbo V8, which puts out an impressive 650 horsepower and 627 lb-ft. of torque. A Formula 1-inspired six-speed sequential transmission puts the power to the rear wheels and, thanks to its rapid-fire shifts, the Apollo hits 60 miles per hour in three seconds flat.

The Apollo's chassis is more than just race car-inspired; it's identical to that of the track-going version of the car. A tubular frame made of cro-moly steel integrates with a carbon fiber monocoque safety cell. Weight distribution sits at 42/58 percent to the front and rear, respectively, which Gumpert claims is the ideal weight ratio for a road-going race car.

Inside, it's hard to confuse the Apollo with a luxury car. Though leather and suede wrap nearly every surface, those materials are mere covers over light-weight carbon fiber. What little switchgear is present is mostly used from existing Volkswagen and Audi products. An in-dash DVD player is standard, though most options are built-to-order in this tailor-made race car for the street.
