Halo cars that shine?

Business Week has an interesting look at some of the most noteworthy “halo cars” in recent years. Halo cars are vehicles that increase interest in a brand, even if they are low volume:

The NSX was a beautiful car that failed to evolve. When it came out, it shocked Ferrari out of its ivory tower and forced them to start building (more) reliable cars with performance on par with their price and fame. Sadly, while Ferrari improved their cars to previously unheard of levels, the NSX just stagnated while the price increased to another level where it just could not play. Too bad, even today that 15 year old design is beautiful.

Volkswagen Phaeton?! What are you on?

It’s a great car, a cut-price Audi A8, but since when is it a “halo car”?

The one that’s probably had the biggest effect of all is the Prius. It’s weird to think about it that way, but it DOES have the country convinced that Toyota is going to save the world. A ton of people think “Toyota” when they hear “green” even though Honda’s probably a much more environmentally responsible major automaker.

When I hear ‘green’, I think of the color. When I hear ‘Toyota’, I picture a white garbage can with a red circle on it.

Well said, Jon, the Pegaso Z-102 Saoutchik was one of these great cars that make history and never become famous. It was very advanced for its time. Too bad Pegaso started making trucks and disappeared later.
And why in the list there´s only one european car?

Why is the Aurora a joke??? It has a v8 Northstar engine that give 250hp and was an amazing looking car in 1995 (when other were boxed shaped). It also drive like a dream and has outstanding comfort.
