In an obtuse and out of character move, the administration actually got something right for a change. If the government subsidizes Detroits arrogant stupidity, its just going to prolong the inevitible. I believe that Bush said Detroit "needs to focus on building relevant products". What a novel idea to put forth, building cars people want...what an unbelieveably bold statement. we have no business pouring money on Detroit, instead, Detroit needs to wake up out of their stupor and stop building chassis that are 2 cycles behind, and drivechains that are 4 product cycles behind, you and your pushrod driven FWD 4 speed transaxle garbage. That's exactly the stark foot-up-the-ass Detroit needs.

We dont need the president or any part of government "marketing" The US automobile industry or any US manufacturing (although it'd work...can you imagine the response if the President promoted "Buy American"?).
I do believe, as US citizens, it is our duty to realize all the effects of Globalization. I believe the government can help ensure that we are all educated about Globalization. Cheapest isnt necessarely best!

really, that was the stupidest article i have read all day. he's asking for a national cheerleader for the US automotive sector? or maybe it was something about the Ford and GM needing a presidential hug?

i don't think anyone is rooting for GM to collapse and fail. i think the reality is that everyone knows rick is doing nothing but helming a sinking ship while taking down ford with it. despite all the industry murmurs rick either knows something everyone doesn't or he likes sitting on his hands.

an advocate whose sweeping concept of national security in a globalized world doesn't end with the Pentagon, the CIA and the Department of Homeland Security

yeah, good luck with that.

they're kidding, right?
