Engines have sure come a long way since then. Nowadays, 100HP per litre is pretty respectable. Did you know that GM's supercharged 2.0 litre Ecotec four cylinder makes 130HP per litre? That's the engine they're using in the Saturn Sky Redline, and the Pontiac Solstice GXP. It's the highest specific output engine GM has ever built, and one of the highest (I think) production engines in the world.
