Ford is hoping the new Edge crossover (CUV) will “be the next home run in the company’s product-led turnaround,” the company said in a statement today. “We have good reason to be optimistic as we launch another customer-driven product that’s right for today’s market,” said Paul Mascarenas, vice president, Product Engineering, The Americas. “We believe Edge has what it takes to follow in the Fusion’s footsteps — it will be a success.” Ford expects sales of the Edge and Lincoln MKX to replace lost sales in the SUV market. “The growth of the CUV business and the decline of the SUV business is the most dramatic shift in product that I’ve ever observed,” said George Pipas, U.S. sales analyst for Ford. “By the end of the decade, I think CUVs will likely be the largest vehicle category in the U.S. auto market,” said Pipas.

250hp, AWD, I am not sure what they will run, but keep ‘em around $25k and they just might have a big hit on their hands. I am biased against Fords, but I wish them all the best, and hopefuly this vehicle has what it takes to make it.
Maybe throw in a nice TD engine in it…

who knows if it will be a hit it looks a bit like an early 1990’s concept.

They need it. The Freestyle, which looks pretty good for people with four kids who can’t afford a loaded minivan are mostly still-born at my local dealer. A worse sign is the new Mazda crossover a half a block away: every color, every grade with neon sale stickers hanging from the rearview.

I really hope this works out for Ford. However, not offering a Diesel version just tarnished the “edge” it might have, IMO.

I like the Edge. Isn’t as sporty as the Mazda, but it does have a badass all-American look, has more room than the Mazda, plus it gets better mileage and has more power (265hp on the latest version, I believe). I would probably normally prefer the Mazda but the mileage is atrocious on the thing. If in 2 years I want to replace the current ride, I’ll be all over the Edge. The gotta-have-now buyers will be gone, and there will be rebates, and all the bugs out.
Go Ford! Good job …

The Ford Edge will be Ford’s number one selling vehicle. This is what most Americans want to drive.

John Landers,
Have you talked to most americans personally or read a statistical report saying it? If not, your words are worth nothing, so please don’t make such statements.

I wouldn’t put all the eggs in one basket if I was Ford. For if the Edge tanks, the company will surely be dragged with it. Better invest in more models with more attractive designs that people will actually want to buy. Because all I see in the Ford Edge is more boring designs from Ford. Maybe they can bring in the design chief from Ford’s European arm with recent hits like the S max and the Galaxy.

You prefer the styling of the Galaxy to the Edge???
To each his own. The Galaxy is a full-on soccer-mom mobile, IMHO.

Ha ha ha ha Good luck ford. The Edge looks like a badly fitting wig, the body is too big for the wheels and the front and rear styling is really bland. This is Fords Rendezvous

Yes, I prefer the Smax/Galaxy twins because more considerable effort went into their design unlike the dated Edge which should have been launched 3 yrs ago. I just appreciate more the value of great design and have no prejudice to a vehicle and its target market.
