Rinspeed at the Geneva Motor Show (Feb 28) will show the zaZen concept to the public for the first time. The entire roof dome of the Zen-inspired car is made of a single sheet of transparent Bayer polycarbonate plastic. The technical highlight in the car’s design is that the transparent rear window has been turned into a luminous holographic area. A conspicuously large brake light shines out of what looks like a floating, transparent teardrop roof. Also impressive is the roof’s ability to change transparency at the press of a button or the turn of knob. The name of the car has was deliberately chosen to reflect the overall attitude with which the companies approach the task. Rinspeed says Zen – borrowed from Buddhist teaching – is a form of insight that is only attainable if you are prepared to give up preconceived ideas.
