General Motors’ Australian Holden division today unwrapped its newest model, the Holden Captiva Series II, an updated version of the midsize crossover related to the Cadillac SRX.
The seven-seat Captiva features new gasoline and turbodiesel four cylinders, as well as a 3.0-liter direct-injected V6. All Captivas are mated to six-speed automatic transmissions.
The Captiva rides on GM’s Theta platform. Developed primarily by the automaker’s Korean operations, it is a distant cousin of everything from the long-departed Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Vue to the Cadillac SRX and Saab 9-4X. Holden will continue to offer a shorter-wheelbase Captiva that is a near clone to the second-generation Saturn Vue briefly sold in North America.
For 2012, the Captiva gains new front and rear fascias with swept-back headlamps and aggressive wheel arches. Alloy wheels, ranging in size from 17 to 19 inches, are standard across the board.
Inside, the Captiva is updated with a more modern fascia and a smorgasbord of GM’s global switchgear.
The updated model goes on sale soon in Australia beginning at $32,490 AUD, a $2,000 decrease from the previous model year.
