Maybe. but only if the owner doesn’t take any kind of care of the engine. I’ve found GM (and FORD) V8s to be nearly indestructible… if you remember to change the oil on schedule and treat the thing like you mean to keep it for more than the life of the car note.

It might be the color and the lighting but…

This is one ugly car.

The bodywork looks like some crap you see strapped to a 10 year old Eclipse. It looks wanna-be and cheap and is not worthy of the high praise and expectations placed on the line-up.

The wheels look pretty bad in my opinion, i prefer the stock 20s off my HSV GTS. Soon the LS2 in Australian HSVs will be replaced by LS3 anyway.

When they tested the Vauxhall VXR, which is basically the Commodore for the UK, on Top Gear, they mentioned some kind of a supercharging option that was already available on the Commodore–I assume through HSV–that pushed it up to 600 horsepower.

As much as I like the high-testosterone engines, in this age of high gas prices I would love to see a lighter, nimble car more. Celicas were a blast to drive, and they never had anything close to the HP numbers today. 500 HP is a niche market, and most people can’t afford them anyways.

A good friend of mine has an 05 GTO and he loves it. He’s the kind of guy that doesn’t really care for anything too flashy or that makes a huge statement but when he gets those rear tires spinning or exits an offramp at 100mph+ in 2.0 seconds you know he means business. I think that’s the kind of image Pontiac wanted about 5 years ago. Now they are more performance oriented and are certainly trying to advertise that more.

Problem with the GTO was that it was an aging platform, and we finally got the end of it. They imported too many (in the beginning) and they sold it slightly higher than a Mustang GT (32k base, an employee could get one for 28-30k inlcuding discount) brand new. The interior is nice and the 6.0L is great. What Pontiac should have done was instead of watering down the looks of the GTO was just imported the Monaro the way it was. I liked the looks of the Monaro way better…

Again for the price the LS7 is an expensive limited production engine, so giving us a 6.2L in our largest Zeta car was probably a more affordable and (CAFE standard acceptable). Apparently the Aussies don’t have to worry about this yet.

it is now obvious to me gm is tryng to kill pontiac. think about how boring the last gto was. for 3 years there was ZERO effort from “pontiac” to do ANYTHING to make it a more intimidating car. my son has a gto remote car based on the last gto, and with ground effects and more dramatic spoilers, it would have been an awesome car! the same goes for the solstice. the gxp is almost identical to the base solstice. no WOW top of the line head turner….nothing. THAT is what pontiac was all about, the WOW factor. its time gm-chevy either shop the brand (hello toyota?) kill it, or get their heads out of the collective rears and fix the division the right way….
