Yes, america needs our vehicles, compared to the lame load of trash you try to pass off,(the manufacturers) there would not be a lot of traffic on the road if you took away all the suv's and pick-ups. wagons are great cars, i have owned three in the past and have had two sedans of late, they are so un-practical, give me a wagon or ute or a two door coupe with heaps of grunt any day, all of the holdens come with either V6 or V8 rwd. the wagons are named vacationers or adventra's and G8 <(shit name) is a monaro.you guys says wagons don't sell that well there. minivans are the vehicles that don't sell well here, aussies like there 4wd here, 2 and 4 door instead of minivans, that trend may change in the future. the commodore wagon is not as big as the magnum, but bigger than a mazda 6 wagon. you know i think you guys have too many variants over there, like G.M. has chev ,buick, pontiac etc, who have all made great cars in the past respectively,(up until about 1970). holden has one line to worry about, the same with FORD AUSTRALIA,it's expected to produce good cars, although ford did go backwards a few models back and are still playing catchup to get peoples trust. It's a much smaller market here, so the expectantancy is higher, i suppose it is there too, but they obviously don't deliver.

"GM Australia = Ford Europe: Great cars that would sell here but boneheaded management can't figure it out…"

Bingo! I'm not a fan of wagons, but I'd own this one.

"Head-giver", its utility would help when your mom's servicing me or during her oral exam ... all that space makes a difference when compared to the usual front seats location.

I agree with autonut's comments about design. The problem with the US market is everyone is going "crossover" crazy, even though it's just another word for gas guzzling SUV. Wagons have yet to really catch on in the US outside of Subaru and without a third row seat no wagon will ever do well. I love the styling of the G8 and this wagon, but it's too big for my tastes.

I think US market & GM will more benefit from bringing the guy who designed those Holdens here to run the design studio for GM. There was not much comparable produced in all GM divisions in States. I think he even outdid Opel guys, they aren't bad either.

Looking at the side profile picture I thought that is a great looking Audi station wagon. Then I read the title that its a Holden. They should bring this to the US under any badge and it would do well among station wagon buyers.

Is it just me or does Holden have an updated version of a car lineup from the '70s in the US? They have an el camino (Ute), a gto and a station wagon. They do look good updated.

I would rather have a more interesting name, but if Pontiac sticks with its "Gx" scheme, I'm not sure if it should be a G8 variant or a G9.

I don't think it'd fit in Buick. Besides, US Buick dealers have made it clear they only want shit cars. The Nomad is a possibility.

This should come over, and I don't care under which badge, so long as it is rationalized with its marque's lineup.

How does Pontiac G8 Safari sound? Or Buick SportWagon? Or Chevrolet Nomad?

This is a classy-looking wagon, and GM should capitalize on its Zeta investment and bring this car over.

it is beautiful wagon. However, wagons did not sell well in states since late '70s. Perhaps they were ugly and auto execs did not noticed, 'cause Volvo sells mostly wagons and I haven't seen a lot of "leftovers" on BMW lots. Another strike against this wagon coming on our shores is the fact that all above mentioned wagons are within "white" collar price and brand recognition and Pontiac isn't.

global lightning - You are, in part, correct. GM down under makes great cars (like this one) but GM Europe also makes great cars in the form of Opels. You are incorrect to say the typical stuff about "management being stupid and blah blah" because GM HAS brought over many of their cars from Europe in the form of Saturns and many of the Aussie cars (like the Commodore) will be brought over here in the form of the Pontiac G8. The wagon you see here as well as the recently unveiled Ute are all candidates for import into the US and believe me, GM North America wants to cars, but GM is a business and they have to look at other factors than just the market. Other than question of "is there a market for them?", GM also has to evaluate if they can make a profit on them. In the current situation with the Aussie dollar climbing as high as it has and the US Dollar falling, importing those cars would be expensive and make little sense from a business prespective. They are, however, strongly considering importing ONE OF THE TWO (Wagon or the Ute) anyway, but that is just pure speculation.

Ricardo makes a point. While Pontiac is starting to re-establish a more muscular character, it still has tremendous brand equity with women. Those two together + a utility-oriented vehicle design = sales, sales, sales.

This vehicle is so seriously cool it is sickening that we don't get it (yet).

Is the Ute cool ... yeah ... but this wagon would outsell a Ute 2:1 easily. The Ute will come off as a niche oddity. This is useful, cool, and would appeal to both genders (whereas the Magnum is targeted at guys only). Get a clue, GM. Give us a G8 Wagon too.

If Pontiac is not going to have a mid or full-sized SUV, to speak of (the Torrent and Vibe do NOT count and GMC shares lot space), then this Wagon wold be excellent. Keeps up the performance tack and Would put Chrysler on notice.

I don't know about decades too late, but I'd definitely give the late 90s back.

At least GM has been getting a lot better the past few years. Ford is still in the dumps. Maybe Cerberus will pull Chrysler out of the hole.

I'm always amazed and plain peed off at the disparity between the product we get in the US and what's available to the rest of the world. Do the General Fords think we're boneheads in America? I know things are slowly changing, but it's decades too late.

I'd rather see a joint division. Pontiacs have always been attractive to me, aside from the low point of the 90s. A Holden-Pontiac division separate from Buick and GMC would be awesome, but possibly not feasible.

Also note that despite popular belief, the G8 was not rebadged from Holden. The G8 was planned from day 1 of the Zeta platform's life. The Commodore was just built first. It's easier to test first-year designs outside of the US due to regulations.

Bring it over, why not? I'd rather have this than the Ute, especially since Bob Putz has said the Ute would be a Pontiac, not a Chevy El Camino. Idiot.

The G8 is poised to overtake the Charger (in terms of quality, probably not sales since many have already bought Chargers if they wanted a big RWD sedan). Why not make a G8 wagon or G9 to compete with the Magnum?

It has a bit of SAAB SportCombi in the profile. I think it would make a great alternative to the Dodge Magnum, if only North America bought wagons.
