^ Well, you do imply you see 19 sometimes… BTW, I’ve seen 30 mpg in my GTO, but is was a mostly downhill highway run (I’m in the hills, was heading to the flatlands) and I’m sure the trip back up the hill set the average back to the 25 range. AND BTW, I see 25 on pump gas. I believe it might be better with super in this car, but not enough to make up the price difference…

HemiRoadRunner:You should think about what you read. I’m sure I said “I’m lucky if I get 19mpg” it doesn’t mean I’m getting it. I don’t even know what I’m getting. But I could log on to the Edelbrock web site and look up the performance and fuel consumption of the 350ci that has the all Edelbrock Performer RPM package on it. (Package includes Edelbrock Performer RPM Cam and lifters, Intake, Heads, and a Performer Carburetor) I know it’s an instant 420hp because that’s how they advertize it and I’m sure it would be 420hp because I’m running high 11s to low 12s on the Quarter mile (With out Nitrous). Since my ports are polished too that would also add hp.

LOL, I put a new set of pads on it a couple of weeks ago – they were a ceramic/metallic blend. The label on the box said ‘Hybrid’. So I guess I’m generating electricity when I stop?

What do you mean how? Have you seen the sticker on the GTO’s when they were out? With a 6 speed you get 17 city 25 Hwy. It’s got BRAND NEW technology, more aerodynamic, better gearing etc. If you have a 420 HP 350 in an ’81 Z28, how are YOU getting 19 mpg with a carb, 4speed MT/3 speed auto, etc.?

Me too. BTW, I have a 400HP V8 in my GTO and actually get 25 MPG with it (well, unless I USE all that power!). Compare that with some v6 sedans out there, and it’s an amazing feat.

Well most people come on here and think just because a car is offered with a V8 it’s a gas guzzling pos. I like the idea of alternative fuels and more efficient cars, but if I want a muscle car, then that’s exactly what I am going to get. It is my decision to pay for the extra gas it uses, I don’t have to have it, I want it. I don’t think they need to be as fuel inefficient as the older cars, but they need to have some balls and stay somewhat true to their roots. High performance cars are such a small portion of the market anyway, they have no effect on fuel prices. SUV’s on the other hand can take a one way trip to the junkyard.

“I’m not “blaming” any company for building a fun car, but if GM wants to shake its image of a company that thrives on building gas guzzling vehicles, then they need to stick to their original plan and air the “F U Big Oil” commercial, and follow it up with a commercial for the Cobalt XFE or the Aveo that never seem to make the airwaves her in the Northeast.

Proof that GM is run by bunch of idiots. It’s not like creative agency that concocted commercial will refund money back, because GM had change of heart.
I was watching George Will on Fox News yesterday, the brightest journalist of our time in my opinion. He was asked about excessive profits of oil companies and his answer was that the public should investigate Coca Cola first, because their margins are double that of the oil companies. Big Oil would reap profits if there would be no competition in the market place, but BP, Exxon, Shell and Texaco are at war with each other and are competitive in the market place.

Not so easy when your portfolio consists of 40 models with available V8 power. As long as GM keeps pumping out the guzzlers, Big Oil will continue to reap the profits. Hopefully, the demise of Hummer is just the start of GM weaning themselves off of trucks.

Very poorly written article. What was the point? The story never really explained the headline. How exactly did GM “get back together” with big oil?

I think GM must have denied LLN access to a show or something. One or more of the writers seem to be trying real hard to create negative stories about GM out of nothing.
