UPDATE: Spyshots of production 2008 Accord Coupe

Spy photographers have snapped some new images of a production prototype of the 2008 Honda Accord Coupe. These new images of the Accord Coupe follow the release of spy pictures of the upcoming Accord sedan. All the photos show a test car that closely resembles the recent 2008 Accord Coupe concept.

The Accord is Honda’s best-selling model in North America and the 2008 model was previewed at the Detroit auto show in January. With the sheetmetal pretty true to the concept, the all-new Accord Coupe will reach the production line this coming September or October, with the first shipments to dealers shortly afterwards. Honda sources have publicly talked about more horsepower, better fuel economy, cylinder deactivation and lower emissions for the V6-powered Accord – but no firm specification are currently available.

I love the current Civic “Tron” commercial. Perfect for the type of soul-less car that it (and most Hondas) is.

For some reason, I just can’t get excited by any of the Japanese brands these days, just no “life” to these cars. They are appliances to get you from point A to point B, albeit reliably. I’ll take a few flaws, some style, and some personality over robot perfection any day!

I think it look it may look bloated because the camo is white and matches the car color. I actually think it looks better than the concept shots we got awhile back. Now if it has a V-6 above 250 hp then I will be interested. Honda is still preserving that balance between hard and soft edges, where Toyota has completely abandoned that balance in place of bloated looks. I am excited to see more real-world pics.

Looks like the front end of a Camry grafted onto the rear of a Solara. If it weren’t for the pictures of the Coupe Concept, I’d swear this is a Toyota. The give-away is the wheels, which closely resemble the 9-spoke wheels on the current Accord Coupe and have similar styling to other wheels used throughout the Honda/Acura range.
Bland bordering on bleh (especially with the Bangle-bootay) But then, who’s ever baught a Honda for the styling? It will be utterly reliable if unobtrusive, which is exactly what most people want.

Joseph, you are an uninformed Honda Koolaid drinker, aren’t you? How many cars have you driven over the last year? Are you an automotive engineer? I didn’t think so. I, sir, have 15 years experience testing vehicles for every major OEM, and for some of the consulting companies they use (like JD Power) Sometimes, I am the guy in the spy photos you see. I have driven every car you mentioned. In fact I driven almost every car put into production over that time, as OEM’s always benchmark 3-4 vehicles along with their prototypes. I stand by my opinion that MOST Japanese cars are like driving your mom’s trusty dishwasher. Sure, they are reliable, but not as reliable as the “public” thinks. My daily driver is a 3-series wagon that has 130,000 trouble free miles, and still feels as good & tight as the day I got it. It will blow the doors off this and any other Honda, save the S2000 or NSX, on any winding road. I have no brand-bias, but have never been as impressed with Japanese vehicles as the general public is, and neither are my colleagues as far as driving dynamics and design goes. For refinement and fit and finish, they are the best overall, but like I said, that doesn’t make your heart beat any faster, and if you are any kind of enthusiast, that’s what you want from your personal car. That they are bringing out a COUPE, means that they are trying to target some enthusiasts, and it’s basically telling a lie doing so. This is a secretary’s car, which is no bad thing nor bad for business, as I am sure people will buy into the Japanese-is-best hype (like you) and buy it.

The S2000 and the NSX are the ONLY cars Honda has ever recently and will ever produce that can be construed as enthusiast cars. I love the S2000, and would buy one if I wanted a light, cloth top, 2-seater that revs to 9000rpm. I would buy an Accord in a SECOND if I wanted a car to get me from A to B with no surprises or excitement, and for the general public, that’s great, but I am probably an exception to that, so I guess my opinions don’t matter here.

Golf4me- I would say that the Civic Si could be considered a low priced enthusiast’s car. It’s not a real sports car but if you can only afford 20k why not. I’d still buy a GTI over it, hell i would go to mexico and buy a focus ST and drive it back rather than get an Si. But if you want a fairly quick, good handling, boring looking car the Civic Si is a good option.

Chris, I agree, for only 20-ish k the Civic SI is a pretty decent ride, but let’s face it, it’s still a gussied up Civic, and that dash has GOT to go. The one I drove very briefly had a broken synchro, so I had to baby it and it wasn’t all that fun. You know you are driving a FWD car. I actually like the styling of the sedan better for some reason too. Since a fully equipped GTI is closer to 30k, that’s pretty tough. I also don’t like the styling of the new GTI/Rabbit & Jetta as much as the previous ones. I think they should have stuck with the original angular lines with more heritage. For that kind of scratch I’d rather have a used 3-er, G35, or IS.

Sampson, I hold the Nissan FM platform vehicles in very high regard for the most part. Great power from the VQ motors, and the correct wheels are being driven. (RWD) Where I feel they fall short slightly is in the interiors (especially the Z) and in the styling of the G Sedan, especially the new one. I think the vehicle I like best off the platform is the FX35! Even with it’s high CG, it handles well, yet it’s the most practical of the bunch. Has the best steering feel with the 20’s of all of them. Has that love it or hate it style too. The problem with the Z and to a lesser extent the G Coupe is that they had to employ the ol’ stiff spring/stiff shock axiom for them to handle especially well, which they do, but on a bumpy/curvy road that is not a combination that inspires confidence. That is the achilles’ heel of this platform. I’ll say any of the FM cars are to Nissan as the S2000 and NSX are to Honda. Toyota has the IS/GS, but I am not as big a fan of those as the FM cars, just because they are soooo bland, not bad cars. To be honest there are no more “bad cars” out there, just some are better than others, and of course it depends on how much money you want to spend. In vehicles as in most things in life, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! If a G35 is 10k less than a 3-er, rest assured there are reasons for that. Some are economic, but 80% is content-related.

Of all the Japanese brands, I loved the Subies, especially the non-STI WRX. Drove one up Pikes Peak once…yeeee haaaa…Don’t like the STI’s as much due to the look, and the regular WRX is plenty fast. Love the H-motors’ sound and feel too. I don’t like the new styling though…ooof. Not been able to sample an EVO yet, but I hate the looks of it.

I think you just took a small step out of the “japanese cars do nothing for me” closet. If you’re yellin’ “yeee haaaa” then they must be doing something right.

nice response though I must say. I agree with nearly everything except your opinion of the z’s interior… I think the Z has one of the most distinct interiors I’ve seen from a mass production sports car. Love the factory gauges and the materials, and if you want leather it’s an option (although I’ve never been a fan of the orange leather option). As far as interiors definately beats the mustang and even the corvette. But it’s a sports car, not a luxury car, so the interior shouldn’t be expected to be a posh environment embellished with heavy ornamentation.

When I hear anything about a certain car being “a driving enthusiast’s” car, I just laugh. To me, a car is far more fun to drive if you are pushing it to its absolute limit…the problem with cars that handle so well is just that…they handle so well. I’ve had a couple of Corvettes that were damn near impossible to get squirrely unless it was wet outside…Yes, you go really fast, but how fun is that? Try taking a turn a little too fast in a standard, short bed Toyota Tacoma or a Ford Econoline Van, now that’s a little more fun….the whole “I shouldn’t be doing this, please let me live through this turn, God” moments…now that to me is a rush. What’s wrong with reaching the limits a little quicker? To me, it’s kind of like bragging about having a high tolerance for alcohol…I get my buzz quicker and love it. Driver’s Enthusiast. **** no.

The 3 Series is fine, but don’t tell me that it has a “life” to it while at the same time mentioning that japanese cars don’t. To me, japanese cars, if anything, have way more life to them…For one I believe they last longer (more life, literally), they appeal to a wider range of people (secretaries, tuners, etc), and I think that people put more of their own life into their Japanese cars…I see a lot more customizations on hondas than I do on BMW’s, which means to me that most BMW’s are the same and not unique at all, while Japanese cars take on the life of their drivers.

Especially when you’re talking about the 3 series wagon…c’mon. Obviously 15 years experience in testing cars hasn’t been enough. You need your car to have more of a life to it? Try Kitt on Knight Rider…

Everyone speculates on a vehicle once it’s spotted but no one has an idea of what the overall prackage will look like until it is finally unveiled. The Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged is amazing off the line, but pricey(er) for more the $23k.

Like someone looking at a MINI will really look at an Accord … and only those as retarded as you would agree that the Cobalt is better than the Accord, you stupid, ****-for-brains loser.

Look at the SECOND picture with the interior shot…..
MAN, they copied BMW and Mercedes for a LARGE center screen on top of the dash. Those really suck.

Hey, I’m all for large screen of info/nav, but come on…. right on top of the dash and similar design of BMW and Mercedes’s interiors???? Honda must be out of ideas!!

The new pics give a (thankfully) clearer view of the front end, which has a much less clunky grille than the concept.. and the lower front fascia is actually nicer looking than the new Infiniti G37s! But that deep, sharp character line sweeping rigidly upward across the side is completely incongruent with the curved lower sill line.

I can’t help it, my first thought whenever I see this car is “the best thing that could ever happen to the Altima coupe”. Hideous.

Ugly this time around, isn’t it? It doesn’t matter. The car is still Frong Wheel Drive and asking over $26k for the V6 model. Does it even come with a manual transmission option for the V6?

Anyone who knows anything about Honda knows they don’t have to steal ideas. The headlamps are actually from the Honda Stream , not sold in the states as of yet & out long before the new Sonata. Secondly, if you go back to several generations of Honda/Acura vehicles the new face is no more than a freshened one from older models with an extended lower front fascia. Anyone who sees Altima or Camry lines in this car probably can’t tell the difference between apples and oranges either.

For those who are even thinking about buing this bloated POS, why not head over to your local Pontiac store to check out the red hot G6. Not only are you buying American built product, thus supporting American industry, bnut you are buying the style, quality and performance that you have come to expect from Pontiac.

And with a new Malibu around the corner, the Accord will face some stiff competition which could knock it out of the top 10 spot that it has wrongfully held for years. We all anticipate the long awaited, but equally popular Chevrolet Malibu, coming to your local Chevy dealer for 2009.

Soul-less. Boring. The Japs are always behind. 7th gen Accord? G6 rip off. 7th gen Civic? Cobalt rip off. Ridgeline? The Silverado is the only god-given truck to the world (world=America). Any other trucks with 4 doors is a rip off.

The Japanese really aren’t trying as hard as they used to. But forget them: these guys here have made some real improvements on the Hyundai Sonata. And now it’s a coupe! O wait Hyundai. Honda, Hyundai… same thing. OK, not really. But in today’s Acord Coupe case… YES THEY ARE.

because RWD is BETTER.

Don’t worry, it’s not like my hopes were up, honda won’t make a proper sports coupe without making you pay more than 35k. It’s okay though, high school kids need FWD, and so do secretaries.
