3115: what do you do when a faux-luxury honda and a faux-luxury toyota crash on the freeway.

A: If neither car has exploded, puncture the fuel tanks and strike a match.

B: Remind them that they paid an extra $10,000 and they're just as dead

C: Nothing

I have only owned Acura and I currently own a 2004 TL. I bought that bc they have no more CL but this Honda Accord Coupe is nice reminds me of an Aston Martin. I would have no problem buying that and exchanging my TL! The sedan is a blatant rip of the Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) 5-series but hey the Accord has to go more upscale. I like the design I just hope that they will change the RL engine to the 3.7 they use in the MDX otherwise the Accord, TL and RL will have the same power plant. Toyota Camry and Lexus ES& GS350 use the same engine but they have enough sense to offer a V8 in the GS. The RL competes with the GS not the LS BTW
Im done bitches

I don't know what you guys were expecting. It's not like honda is all of a sudden going to turn into lamborgihni and start making all their cars look like exotics. It's a normal, reliable, sedan. That's what people want, and thats what people are buying. So honda is going to keep making them. Customers are satisfied, honda is satisfied.

It is interesting that people are actually disappointed in this car considering its a Honda. They generally are incapably of designing a nice looking car and this is no exception. Its not ugly, but it is highly derivative of other cars on the market and very conservative. Its pretty obvious they were studying the 5 series a lot when designing this car. I'm sure the interior is much better than the exterior.

There is not much to say about this car, flat, ugly, no appeal, same as the older model. Honda needs to get some inspiration from european designers.

1487_GM_SALES:

You’re blatantly pitching things.
Tell your bosses to start selling the Zafira here.
And no more pussyfooting in your ad campaigns. Make commercials that tell the truth straight-out. “Our cars are better that Hondas or Toyotas, that’s why you should buy them. None of the opaque three-way Saturn challenge stuff. Note of this warranty stuff. Just make better cars, and let people know you make better cars.

Honda, or even its faux-luxury division, has as much chance of equalling a BMW as Estelle getty does of breaking Hank Aaron's HR record.

Bin Laden Pitching 4 perfect games for the BoSox to sweep the Yanks in the ALCS, four no-hitters to sweep the Mets in the Series, and STILL getting elected (by unanimous popular vote) Mayor of NYC

mbggd099:

And the Altima takes the crown as the best of the new generation of mid-size sedans ...

Not so fact. But it's certainly the best from japan's big 3 unless you count the maxima in that group.

Honda in my opinion have always made dated looking cars even when new except the S2000. This new Accord is just as dated looking but it does look better than the current model. I like the C pillar as it looks very BMWish. The grill looks like it came off Honda's Element which is one of the ugliest cars in my opinion. The car looks like a true Toyota Camry fighter which is what Honda was hoping for. Even though I would never buy it, I am sure that it is a competent vehicle that will be enjoyed by someone.

I dont mind most angles on those headlights, but S-60 nailed it --- WTF is that freakin bulge popping off the fender like a boil waiting to be popped? It looks like absolute shit, and in fact looks stupid on a monte carlo, but at least gm's designers kept it halfway subdued. Holy shit ... I'll wait till I see the real thing, but I was a bit interested before ... now I am not sure. Plus the flow off the tail lights into the bumber looks contrived and cliché.

But it'll sell in shitloads and win every Consumer Report accolade - just watch. Maybe the coupe will have a better take ...

i think the car looks better in these pictures but frankly, those headlights are just too much. and i too think the door handles look too big or too 'blingy'.

does anyone else think the rear looks like the offspring of a toyota avalon and saturn aura?

You all are biased and idiotic, this is handsome car, you've got to be crazy to call this ugly, or an abomination. It isn't the most innovative, or the best looking design, but god damn it looks pretty inoffensive and actually attractive. Stop complaining.

With this abomination I can say for sure that I'll never buy an Accord for personal use again. The old Volvo S80 has more personality than the "robotic" grill that's reminiscent of the 90's.

i meant the bubble corner of the headlight, not the headlight style. Impala/Monte Carlo has a small bubble on the corner of the headlight, this new Accord has an oversize bubble on the corner. Looks lame and whacked out. Ughhhhhhhh. Looks like it could knock every mailbox and posted sign down!!! ha

The headlights definitely look plucked from the Sonata. But everything else to me somewhat screams previous-gen Altima, with some slightly original taillights.

And the headlight bubble resembles an Impala/Monte Carlo? What smoketh ye?

Okay, I think I don't like this car anymore.

The grille looks blocky and outdated, while the bug-eyed headlights mirror the styling error that is the Camry's front end. The beltline looks like a Sebring or an '08 Focus. Just drop the handles below the line, and it'd look ten times better! Also, the door handles are different, but a bit too big. It just doesn't match the flow of the profile.

The back end is pretty cool. But not enough to salvage the design.

Of course, this is based on photography alone. I'm sure I'll have a different impression in person.

Is this a Honda? Sure looks urapeein to me! I would love to see their quality start to slip as did Toyota's that would be frickin halarious. Anyway, I still say these cars are way overrated. I happen to like my Fusion quite a bit.

The crime of this whole thing is that the Accord Concept was actually pretty decent looking.

I saw one (a sedan) a couple of weeks ago, sans disguise, driving along the QEW in Southern Ontario. Though not earth shaking, it looks pretty good in person, clean, tight lines, perhaps not as sleek as a Civic or Altima, but certainly better looking than a Camry, and much less Buick-ish than the current car.

The deal-breaker for me is how it appears to borrow styling cues, especially in the grille, from vehicles like the ridgeline and the element.

I'm surprised deantj has some nice things to say about this Asian car after his "slitty eyed gooks" comment in the Brilliance crash test thread. Make up your mind, deantj: do you want to be a racist pig or a person who sees the light in humanity?

In other news, I think this new Accord could go without the busy character line carved into the side. Honda should cave in the side a little like Lexus to create a clean-cut look. Also, too much chrome in the side windows. The whole thing looks like an Acura TL and an RL blended in together. With some 3-series, of course. Overall, pretty nice, both the coupe and sedan.

Don't underestimate how much people buy cars based on looks. Styling in the midsize segment may not be as important as it is for compact cars for attracting buyers, but it is a major factor.

I admit the sedan has a strong hint of the current Sonata in its silhouette but ... since the Sonata looks 1000 times better than the current Camry or Accord, that is a good thing.

And although the Coupe above does not look as good as the Altima coupe, Nissan's option packing makes leather a $5,000 option bundled with BS I don't want, so I'd take the Accord Coupe (which will probably get 4mpg more with the V6).

And those who are oddly hung up about the puniness of an exhaust pipe would better spend their exceedingly limited abilities worrying about the puniness of their own pipe.

"Well it should really help Fusion and Taurus sales with the
import sedans looking like ass and getting less mpg…"

Last time I checked in the 2007 FEG list those cars are equal or less in mpg than the Accord. You may want to check your facts.

"I hate GM, but the Saturn Aura is by far the best looking car in this class right right–even more so than the Altima."

Again, there is more to looks when deciding to purchase a family car. Things like interior quality and reliability do matters in case you didn't know.

I'll reserve my judgement of the new Accord until I buy one.
