I’ve driven the Fit (Jazz in UK and Hong Kong) and the Mazda 3. I have to say the Fit is a light car, fidgety around 80kph, light steering and a not very tourque-y. The Mazda 3 on the other hand was a lot more powerful, better handling and was stable at 140kph. These two cars are in different segments of the market and shouldn’t be compared anyways. one is a compact, and the other is in the sub-compact class. But, in the Fit’s defense, it is a roomy little car.

The other potential Korean-fighting Hondas that have been traditionally offered in non-American markets like the Life, Zest, Spike are, in my opinion, less attractive looking (this may be difficult for some to believe.) And they’ve got some crazy names, too.

JoJohn, as the former driver of a ’94 Geo Metro, I can confidently say that it is much more sylish than this Honda. It its defense, though, the Honda has airbags.

Honda was ranked number four in the US alone (I won’t begin to talk about the japanese complaints] as to manatory recalls for 2005…so much for reliability myth.

However, the Dodge Hornet and the Dodge Caliber will be priced cheaper than the Fit. There are other cars that are priced in the same range that is a better banfg for the buck.

Either way, the Fit is apparently more fun to drive than any of the mentioned competitors.

Maybe so #10, but I wouldn’t want to have resort to aftermarket parts just to the get the power I know I can get elsewhere at and around the same pricepoint. Also, wouldn’t popping in a turbo run you into the same money spent as a Mazda3 anyway?

Engine or no….these are ugly. They have them over here (Germany) and I have never liked the awkward design. I think Toyota had the better idea with Scion by putting something at the pricepoint with style.

it takes mazda 0.8 more liter of displacement just to get 41 more hp mind as well turbo the honda fit with the money you save. Beside more displacement doesn’t mean efficiency.

heh… honda engines better than mazda?
scion xA/xb= ~103 horsepower
honda fit= 109 horsepower
mazda3= 150 horses, optional engine 160
maybe the honda is more reliable, but i take the ability to move out of my own way over reliability…
i’d really like to see dodge build the hornet and blow away the competition in this segment… concept had 170 horses…

Sure a Mazda3i 4-door starts at 15k, but at least you get 150hp and some zoom-zoom to tool around with.

but side air bag on mazda 3 aren’t standard and i think imo honda engines > mazda. I thought mazda starts around 15k? and scion is around it too.

I wouldn’t pay a $14K base price for something like that when you can get something similar for around $10K or less. Why not just get a Civic if you have to shell out that much for the tiny Fit? Or get a Mazda 3 or a Scion.

They should offer a verion w/ the Si engine, maybe a bit detuned to not step on big brother’s toes. I hate whne a sport pagage doens’t add more power.

I think my brain hasn’t kept up with inflation; I keep expecting this segment to come in around $12,000.

I think that its external similarities with the Aveo will make the Fit look too expensive for its price. Especially if real (not MSRP) base-model Civic prices fall. Sure, the Aveo is priced as it is because it’s cheaper and probably not making money, but it’ll drag down the Fit to its level.
