Honda on Tuesday said it would build its U.S. sixth auto plant, with production beginning in 2008. With an investment of approximately $400 million and employment of more than 1,500 at full capacity, the facility will have an annual capacity of approximately 200,000 vehicles. Site selection for the new facility has already entered its final stage. Additional details of the new facility, including location and product production plans will be announced at a later date. As a result of this expansion, Honda’s automobile production capacity in North America will increase from 1.4 million to 1.6 million units in 2008. The automaker also plans to build a new engine plant in neighboring the existing Honda operations in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.
