As a 2006 civic hybrid owner. The thing I can say is no matter how I drove this car I never came close to the EPA rated miles. Even keeping RPGs down low.

I think you guys are missing the point. It’s an error with the driving system, one that’s definitive, not just the drivers. There’s a big difference between 45 and 32 mpg, but they ended up paying a premium for a product that promised better figures that was tested to achieve those figs.

These folks may have a point because the Honda Civic Hybrid system does suck badly…And Honda did claim (brochures) this vehicle could travel on electric power w/o the gas engine which is complete deception. But these tards should have gotten their law degrees before sueing then it may have been worth there while.

Hey guys.

I think people who brough the Hybrid miss understand that, the vehicle actually can get a good MPG not by keep pushing the RPM to the max like most people did. My 98 Mercury Mystique V6 get about 22 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Fatory has not miss leading the MPG, as an American we are always been pushing that gas padel too hard all the time.

Govt test is using on the dyno not a real world driving, and that why when you see it (on the sale sheet) say Civic Hybrid get 32 MPG AVG that mean it can go between 28 to 38 MPG and depend on your driving habite. There was a test from one of the NASCAR driver, who test on the Ford Fusion Hybrid that got about 85 MPG (AVG test on Ford Fusion Hybrid was 31 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway). How did he do it, none stop driving on and off ong high way drive. Most of our vehicle actually can do better MPG then you think, but most of American people are too agressive on it.

There is a website that you can look at before you buy any vehicle use or new, and you can see what people get on the MPG in real world driving (not the Govt or factory).

This has all the markings of Lawyers looking to score some money and some points. While Case Action Lawsuits can be a useful legal tool, especially against large isolated corporations, it is also a scam waiting to happen with little effort to make it so.

I am more than a little dismayed with HONDA’s lack of drive and vision, they are also falling down in design and, if not engineering, certainly execution. and if Jcrewzn’s (BTW that better not be your actual email address. Dumb move.) case is typical of HONDA’s “build it and forget it” mentality, then I little sympathy for HONDA.

If this is a Legit CA Lawsuit and, on the face of it, it doesn’t look entirely like one, then it is over HONDA not actually fixing the car. Again as Jcrewzn pointed out.

I think HONDA is in a LOT more trouble than they are letting on.

Many HCH owners (including myself) know and have experienced a failure with the hybrid drive system and battery. Honda’s solution was to revise the programming resulting in a drastic decrease in MPG. Brand new I was getting 45.7 MPG, it dropped to 38.6 MPG before the IMA failed, and now after the reprogramming / “fix” I can barely get 32 MPG. My habits have not changed, and yes I know how to drive a hybrid to maximize my ratings. It is called “Managed Perception” folks these vehicles can not maintain the claim of getting better MPG due to deficiency in the programming and hybrid drive system. Honda threw a band-aid on it and now cash to do damage control. The reality is HCH owners paid a $3500 premium over the standard Civic, yet we are achieving nearly identical AVG MPG ratings. I would like to see the EPA test the HCH after Honda’s “fix” is installed, it will not be pretty!

This just goes further to show that the EPA mileage rating system is badly flawed, especially in the case of hybrids. The battery of tests they run each vehicle through to determine fuel mileage “averages” need to be completely overhauled.

It stumps me to think that there is state that would allow a lawsuit against proclamation(how do you call EPA numbers?) written by federal government. What amazing to me that Honda execs turned lemon into lemonade: they payed cash less then 25 large to 2 douche bags who sold their names to lawyers for lawsuit initiation. Honda will have to pay high 6 digits to their own legal team for this. They gave coupons redeemable at Honda(!) dealers to 120 thousands douchebags that already bought Civic Hybrid. Basically for a grand they locked in audience. Any car manufacturer would die to spend only a grand per car on promo. Or yes, scheisters were payed 3 mils to walk away. If you divide it by 120,000 it is nothing.

This lawsuit is such garbage. I am not defending Honda, especially being in the last year or so I have definitely seen a sharp decline in their quality, but these are most likely people that are buying this car thinking that it is going to grant them a miracle. Most likely, they are still driving this car in normal conditions, with a lead foot and hard, and clearly do not know anything about EPA estimates. They should have done their research and took in to consideration the words “Expected range for most drivers” and on most or all window stickers, the disclaimer “Your actual mileage will vary, depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle”. All of these people that are going to be squeezing money out of Honda, should first be given a class on how to drive like a normal human being if you are going to buy a hybrid, and should have to present ALL of the vehicles maintenance records, and not for nothing but before I purchased my 2010 Jetta SE (Which is getting almost 32 MPG) I test-drove a honda insight that was averaging 53 MPG, honda knows what they are doing… these people are just a bunch of effin douche bags with nothing better to do than complain.

@Zesty Honda – I agree with you on the Lawyer Comment… most likely people who had no previous knowledge of anything related to a car, let alone EPA ratings.

@daiso, the link you posted showed around 96 complaints. Honda sells around what, over 500,000 cars a year, and this was since 2004?

I think it is stupid that they won’t fix it, but I’m not worried about 96/2,500,000 or 0.000000384% of their vehicles having issues either.

whenever I read about hybrids not meeting their “hybridness” mileage figures, I think of the top gear episode where it was the prius vs. the M3….very interesting results!

and 2.9million in cash for those lawyers??? HOLY CRAP!!
All owners of a certain vehicle model should join and deliberately drive with a heavy shoe so they can say their car didn’t meet their mileage expectations. We can get a lawyer who is our friend and they can cut us in on this frivolous deal!
