An eco-friendly automotive publication has named the Honda Civic Natural Gas its Green Car of the Year for 2012.
Green Car Journal says that the Civic Natural Gas, the only CNG-powered factory-built car assembled in the United States for regular retail sale in nearly every state, met all of its criteria for the award.
The Civic Natural Gas, which was known in previous iterations sold in a handful of states as the Civic GX, beat out the Ford Focus Electric, the Mitsubishi i, the Volkswagen Passat TDI and the Toyota Prius v for the award.
Previous winners have included the Chevrolet Volt (2011), Audi A3 TDI (2010), Volkswagen Jetta TDI (2009) and Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid (2008).
The award was presented earlier this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
