Following a few spy shots from last month, Honda has officially revealed its tweaked 2009 Civic. Changes for the ’09 model year are modest, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing considering the Civic has become one of the top selling cars in the U.S.
Up front, the 2009 Civic features a new bumper, along with newly designed air inlets – three separate inlets replace last year’s large single inlet. A revised grille rounds out the changes for the front of the 2009 Civic.
Out back, the Civics taillights have received a freshening and chrome trim now sits atop the rear license plate holder.
The 2009 model year will also see the addition of two new models: the LX-S and the DX Value Package. The LX-S comes standard with alloy rims and sporty trim pieces, while the DX Value Package includes standard air conditioning and an upgraded audio system.
EX, EX-L and Si models will receive new alloy wheels, while all three – plus the Hybrid model – will now come equipped with a USB port for MP3 audio and Honda’s Vehicle Stability Assist.

Overall, very subtle but nice changes.
I’m trying to figure out which model this is. Those are the old EX wheels and the Hybrid’s spoiler, but it doesn’t have rear disc brakes or the sunroof. Maybe it’s the LX-S?
I WANT THOSE SEATS. The biggest complaint (probably the only one) I have regarding my Civic is the cloth material is a bit uncomfortable and doesn’t stand up well to kids. Hopefully some smart dealers out there will offer an upgrade package for 2006 - 2008 models.

What they should have changed, they didn’t. That dash! I acutally really like the exterior of this car, probably better than any other honda ever*, but that Fisher-Price dash is a deal-killer for me.
* Except the S2000 and NSX.

HomoRR is jealous because with this next iteration of the Civic, all Honda’s are officially out of his max price range. He now must settle for one of the baby 3’s halo cars: the PT cruiser, aveo, etc.

Well, the new front bumper, grille opening, and rear license surround treatment are minor updates. Only the new front bumper is an effective update to the car’s looks. The rest is too subtle. But make no mistake, the Civic is an excellent car, and it’ll probably only get more successful.

The changes are subtle, but they are there.. the taillights are actually disguised to look like the current models’ LEDs, but if you look closer the lighting element is in the center, but the lens is perforated to look like LEDs.. which I expected when the Accord lost its LEDs last year. The headlights and grille now looks more like the Euro Accord.. and almost identical to the Stream.. which makes me think the Stream may be rebadged as the US Civic wagovan by model year 2010.

Someone should tell Honda that in an econo compact car the speedo is more important than the tach, even if this is the Si model.
While it has been around for awhile, this is another car from Honda where the previous gen looked better. That front grille looks like a dust buster.

olds307, see, the funny thing is, you think you are defending an American car. I have news for you — the Cobalt is a rebadged Daewoo. So the ‘merican car you think you’re defending against that annoyingly perfect and sales-friendly Jap Rice Rocket is indeed…
…another Jap Rice Rocket.

^ The Cobalt is a piece of shi.t. The Civic is a nice enough ride, but devoid of presence. Strictly an appliance. I’ll take a Mazda3 any day over it.

The 2006-2009 Cobalt is built on the Delta frame and components, which were created by GM Daewoo in Korea. The Cruze, the Cobalt replacement in 2010, will be a rebadge of the Daewoo Nubria, as confirmed by many other blogs. The Chevy Aveo and Saturn Astra also share the Korean platform, and contain mostly Korean and Asia-made parts (though the Cobalt is assembled in the US currently, which will stop this year).

if you follow that blog down you can see an interior shot of the Cruze with a Daewoo logo in the center of the steering wheel, and a few pages into the blog you’ll find much information about the Daewoo/Cobalt connection.

The cobalt drivetrain and vehicle electrical layout is definitely like nothing that daewoo makes. And all the other goodies that make the SS outperform the civic are not daewoo either. The aveo is daewoo and you know it as soon as you pop the hood. It’s a shame the cruze (delta II platform) will be made there.

Delta II is being developed by GM of Korea aka Daewoo aka GMDAT. The Delta was developed in the US, however is now controlled by GM of Europe aka Opel

Modest changes? I can’t even tell a difference!
I like the Civic, but I always find it funny how Honda never gets critized for using digital gauges, but when an American car uses digital gauges they get chastised for decades.

Well, when you have that horrible split dash right in your face and faulty welds in the suspension, digital gauges just kind of get pushed to the back of the mind.
