Mugen offers upgrades for 2009 Honda Fit

10/22/2007, 2:40 PM

By Drew Johnson

Just last week Honda released images of its new Fit — known as the Jazz outside of North America — and Honda tuner Mugen hasn’t wasted any time putting its spin on the four-door hatch. While there is no word if Mugen will offer any engine upgrades, the company has announced several other upgrades for the Fit.

Two Mugen body kits will be available for the Fit; the more aggressive RS and the L/G Aero kit. Both kits include new bumpers, side skirts, spoilers and chrome exhaust tips. Other Mugen accessories will include upgraded wheels, aluminum pedals, additional gauges, a sports exhaust and a stiffer suspension.

Mugen-version Hondas have proven to be extremely popular in the past. Earlier this year, Honda sold 300 Civic Mugen RRs in just 10 minutes.

Mugen is one of the very few Honda aftermarket builders with a solid reputation. They’re somewhat of a gray-market skunkworks with inside access to Honda engineering.
Almost everyone else just builds crap to exploit the market.

I remember, back in high school, thinking that it was cool to modify my Toyota Paseo. This is the same thing, if not worse. The Paseo at least looked sporty.

Pretty good stuff I would be fairly sure, but I’m also willing to bet it’s way overpriced.

Why rice it yourself when you can have it done by overpaid professionals!

yeah true CA36GTP, i thought that was the point of tuning, to take a not so fast car, and then turn it into one. That i can respect. Paying someone else to do should earn you no more respect then someone who buys a fast car from the factory.

CA36GTP: I guess the point would be to have a comprehensive change to the car, and not just bits and pieces. If someone wants the whole package, done at once, what’s a better option? You know it will be a reliable change, and a quality one. Not my kind of thing personally though. Also, how much do Mugen workers get paid? Do you have the figure?

Mugen has turned a girls car, into girls car thats slightly less lame. on par with most european super small compacts.

Well at least Mugen didn’t turn the Fit into a horrific coat-hanger abortion like they did the Civic. The Mugen Fit is more like a professional abortion done properly with a suction device.

Does the world really need another ecobox with plastic cladding and coffee can exhaust? I don’t care WHO did the mods, it’s still “lipstick on a pig”, but probably more ridiculous.

WTF? It’s a Fit! Doll it up all you want … it’s still a Fit!!! Do I really need those guages? The Battlestar Gallactica Civic Si interior doesn’t have those guages. What a joke.

Now it is more than a turd, it is a turd with more wind drag and added weight. Fit is an econobox, let it be and go play with the NSX!

Very cool for a citycar, I like the swept look. I wish Mugen/M-Tec would drop in the Civic Type-RR engine. Instant street killer.
