Honda has announced it will invest $98 million in its Anna Engine Plant in Anna, Ohio to support production of a new continuously variable transmission. The CVT itself will be produced at Honda’s nearby plant in Russells Point, Ohio.
The Anna Engine Plant will produce high-tech pulley components for the new CVT. Part of Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams’ powertrain initiative, the CVT will debut in Honda’s all-new 2013 Accord.
“For decades, our two Ohio powertrain plants have worked together to deliver advanced products for our customers,” said Hide Iwata, president and CEO, Honda of America Mfg., Inc. “The production of this new CVT technology puts the Buckeye State right in the middle of Honda’s global strategy.”
The CVT-equipped 2013 Accord will launch later this year, but the Anna plant won’t be up and running by then. Honda will initially import the necessary CVT components from Japan before production switches to the upgraded Anna plant in 2013.
The investment is expected to create 150 new jobs.
