Honda has given the green light to a Type R performance version of its latest Civic compact. Honda will reportedly make an announcement on the subject at this fall's Paris Motor Show.

According to the UK's Autocar, Honda will announce the new Type R Civic at the Paris Motor Show and show a concept version of the hot compact at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2013. The Civic Type R will likely hit the market sometime in early 2014.

No other details surrounding the new Type R were revealed, including what engine might power the hopped-up compact. The last version of the Type R was powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder developing about 200 horsepower, but Honda actually had to scrap that engine because it didn't comply with European emission regulations.

In all likelihood Honda will fit the next Type R with a smaller, turbocharged engine to improve CO2 emissions. Horsepower will likely stay around the same mark, but the addition of a turbocharger should ensure the next Type R has more twist than the last generation's 142 lb-ft of torque.

Unfortunately for buyers in the U.S., the Civic Type R will likely be reserved for the European market.
