The United Auto Workers union has vowed to step up its efforts to organize at least one transplant automaker in 2011, but Honda says it won’t be it.

In a speech to the American International Automobile Dealers Association, John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president, said the Japanese automaker is not concerned with the UAW organizing one of its U.S. plants.

“The issue of union representation is one for our associates to decide, not us,” Mendel said. “Having said that, we do not believe that an outside party will improve upon [our] outstanding track record of success … over the past 30-plus years.”

The UAW demonstrated at a number of Toyota dealerships in late 2010 and has threatened to “expose” foreign automakers as “human rights violators” if they do not allow members to meet with transplant factory workers.
