Spied: 2008 Honda Odyssey

07/04/2007, 9:53 AM

By Nick

Spy photographers have captured Honda’s redesigned 2008 Odyssey in final testing. The Odyssey will be undergoing a mid-cycle update for 2008, and even with an inch or two of body-colored tape, you can clearly see the redesigned Accord-like grille, modified front fascia and new headlamps.

The update extends to the rear of the Odyssey as well, with minor modifications taking place on the rear fascia – giving the Odyssey a softer look. The taillamps have also been revised – flipping the turn signals and backup lights from top to bottom.

Just what that POS needs is a softer look. So often I see Odysseys driving down the road with some obese fugly soccer mom or fatherly putz behind the wheel and I think….
….. “DAMN, that’s one edgy vehicle! So cutting edge! Tone it down, already! PLEASE!”
.
Why is this LeftLane News? The only time Odysseys are in the left lane is when they are are doing 55 in a 70, keeping the speed lest someone who wants to do the limit be so foolish as to do so.

The only cool minivan was the Renault Espace F1 concept.

Of course, you couldn’t sit more than two people, and the engine was behind the driver, but what would you expect from Renault?

Don’t under-estimate the Odyssey. We had one for several years and despite it’s 4000+ lbs, it could haul a$$ when you put your foot into it. It felt more like an oversized Accord than a minivan. On Interstates it had a habit of going over 85 MPH if I didn’t watch the speedo; that’s why they really come with cruise control. There are even a couple in the One Lap of America. So even though it’s no Enzo, if you needed to move the family around you could do much, much worst.

Minivans blow. If you need a van, get yourself a real van to pull some cargo in: Chevy Express, Ford Econoline, Dodge Sprinter. Hell, Dodge Caravan. But not some japcrap box. If you need to pull people, they make 7-seat Crossovers now!

Look folks, the LLN home page clearly lists each item being discussed. If you have no interest in minivans why are you wasting your time reading the article? There’s a lot of stuff here I don’t give a rats a** about either, but I don’t whine about it being there in the comment section.

For the record, these “jap crap” vans have sent GM and Ford running from this market with their tails tucked squarely between their legs. It’s a sad statement about the level of completive spirit at both companies.

Good point dl_caldwell and Jordan. Although I would never own a minivan, I totally understand why people would get them. You can’t beat the utility and ease of the minivan when you have 3-5 kids….not even with a crossover. Just like the gas guzzling full size SUVs, there is always a market for such vehicles.

An upgrade for the worst minivan on the market.

Lightning: you can’t do ANY worse than a honda in ANY segment.

I’m sad to say that (for now) I drive the Cdillac of minivans. it’s nice, but I feel emasculated. The wife doesn’t drive, and there are 4 kids.

Truth be told, though, I can fit more stuff with 6 people in my car than my mom can in her Tahoe.

I ain’t no hypocrite. This car looks nice, a combo of the GM A platform and the Mazda MPV. But those are better vehicles.

Still not as good as the new Town and Country (or the current one for that matter). Its really remarkable how people choose not to realize how good minivans are for all sorts of people and lifestyles.

I hate the look of a mini-van, but I can see its purpose. What I definitely find absolutely atrocious though is a station wagon. G-d damn they’re ugly!

Back to cars, any honda is the worst you can get in any segment huh? I didn’t know that Motortrend, Car and Driver, Road and Track were so unreliable. I guess the word of some fat overweight idiot would know better then a professional who has repeatedly given Honda awards. I guess the majjority of Americans are idiots than, considering that the Honda Civic is the best selling car in its class, Accord being second, CRV best selling, Honda Pilot top selling, Honda Fit best selling. Hmm, the overall American population’s word, or some guy from a forum….hmmm hard choice.

in SoCal, the odyssey is the most common minivan on the roads. the sienna is the second most common. so stop the “japcrap” [the odyssey is actually built in alabama and the sienna in indiana] bashing and go drive your oil guzzling town & country’s and see why the odyssey is the best in its class. oh yea, new V6 (270+ hp) ftw

Im not even going to respond to the idiot that posted before me. I think that Honda should worry less about the minivans and more about the Pilot that was dated when It came out and is in bad need of a re design. Now that they have a new MDX they desperately need to get working on the Pilot to catch the Toyota Highlander and even Subaru Tribeca buyers .

Just because I don’t automatically assume a car is junk because it’s american doesn’t make me a homer. Hell, my stepfather had an old beat-up subaru that showed that good vehicle making is an international thing.

Another guy paid $100 for an old beat-up subaru and drove it another 8+ years.

I’m sure some peaople even had Non-POS hondas, I just never met any of them.
