This new model is not a CRX. Honda doesn’t even know their own cars. Hybrids are not the answer Honda. Take a look at your Accord and Insight which sell very poorly.

Winding Road isn’t the most accurate source for info. The Honda CRX is retired, just like the Legend and Prelude. It ain’t coming back, no matter how much Honda fans pine for it.
It’s already confirmed that the new Fit is on its way, along with a new sub-Civic family hybrid. Wether these will share the same platform is yet to be seen. Until we see what Honda shows at the Tokyo, anything is pure speculation

The Accord was over optioned and priced (they should have included a “low end” hybrid Accord) and the Insight was too small for most.
The hybrid is here, ie Prius and like sized and priced.. Get used to it. 100% corn power is a joke. For one unit of ethanol the produsers use 1.7 units. Dumb use of energy. Plus the mileage is worse than petrol.

The Accord Hybrid was a bad idea bc they were more concerned with horsepower than mileage The Insight needed two more doors and some more room and it would have sold well. If they sell a hybrid CRX they will just make the same mistake as they did with the Insight. They need to make a separate model with 4 doors and some room just like Toyota did with the second generation Prius or have a hybrid CRV. That would sell like crazy

Hybrids are the answer, but you need to be specific as to what kind of Hybrid. Toyota and Handa’s Parallel hybrid systems are over-engineered and over cost per unit. But this is the Japanese way it seems. Gadgets and more gadgets.

Serial Hybrids are a better solution because the technology is so relatively simple in comparison. No Transmission, smaller, lighter simpler engine, driven only by motors… HONDA would do well to look at the CHEVY VOLT, TESLA roadster, and the Ellica to get their inspiration.

HONDA prides itself on performance but never seems to deliver in a way that makes a solid, lasting, impact. I mean, the S2000, great as it is, is not the first name in sports cars that springs to mind. It’s not even in my personal top ten. This is a real chance for that.

Otherwise, I would Doubt the CRX would return in name, but in concept it is not unlikely. But I would Like HONDA to kick their FWD habit on performance cars. But now-a-days the CRX would be much too small, it was smaller than a Mini Cooper. The Insight is only slightly smaller. But the concept makes some sense, but I would rather a RWD “Prelude”, small inexpensive (tops out at 22K USD), four to six cylinder (who wouldn’t want a hot six from HONDA), with handling and drive befitting HONDA.

Besides, Isn’t the Civic Si enough? Just add AWD and you’d have a kickin’ WRX and EVO fighter.

It really is a disgrace to the CRX name… It should be what it always was. Screw hybrids.

CRX hybrid? come on, its not gonna do you any good. will there be a non-hybird CRX? tht will sound nice.

is the version I know. On topic though I’m disappointed in Honda of late, they’re better than Toyota but that divide has been shrinking.

I haven’t really liked Honda’s interior materials/styling lately myself. The tachometers are done decently but then everything else falls short. Exterior-wise, they’re average. Mechanically they’re sound, but they have had their issues of late as well.

A CRX should be lightweight nimble handling machine. The weight of the batteries and the high mileage tires will work opposite of these ideals

Flipper has a point.. the original CRX was never intended to be the S2000 or some overt sports car.. it was offered as either a super-basic HF model that offered over 50 MPG due to light weight and skinny tires (not diesel or hybrid trickery), or a sportier Si with great handling and decent acceleration.

I’d like to see Honda bring back the CRX with these two distinct personalities.. one an Insight-like hybrid and one a 200-hp Civic Si junior.. but since the Hybrid system and modern safety requirements require extra weight and expense, this time the economy Hybrid model would end up priced the same as the Si model.

A new Hybrid CRX? Didn’t Honda already built that? It was called the Insight. It looked similar to the CRX, was a Two Seater hatchback, with a 5 speed manual. The basics all mimic the original CRX. I would bet good money that this ‘new’ CRX will look very similar to the Insight, without the strange rear-wheel cover treatment. Just an evolution of the design.
I would agree with the previous post, they should offer two flavours, a hybrid, and a performer.

Why dont they try to turn the Fit into a hybrid. It’s so small & lightweight that they can outsource a less than litre engine & mate it with the civic hybrid’s electric plug-in battery. Good power and fuel mileage.

Correction, the Legend was brought back, It’s called the Acura RL here in the U.S. in Japan it’s still called the Legend. Who knows, as a Prelude owner I look forward to Honda bringing back the Prelude with a RWD setup and a v6 engine. As for the CRX, this vehicle was intended as a extremely good gas saver with practicality for local use. It was never a “sports” car. Reason people tune them is because the vehicle is so light a mildly robust engine powerplant swapped in can make this car fast. Honda keeping with the CRX tradition of it’s original intention is doing right by making it a hybrid.
