Honda – and its Chinese partner, Dongfeng – say that they are planning to build a second assembly plant together in what is rapidly becoming the world’s largest car market. The plant would help Honda’s annual Chinese production top 700,000 new cars.
Honda Dongfeng will first expand its current assembly plant later this year before building a second facility. Both facilities will continue flexible production of Honda’s CR-V, Civic and Spirior (the Chinese market version of the Honda’s world-market Accord) models for the Chinese market. The plant will be Honda’s first to use Honda Soltec solar panels for a portion of its energy.

Honda also builds cars in China in joint ventures with both Dongfeng and Guangzhou, and it assembles about 50,000 units marked only for export at its own plant. Together with its new Dongfeng plant, Honda says it expects its increased production facilities to build about 710,000 cars.
