Honda recalls 43,000 Acura RL sedans

12/18/2007, 2:17 PM

By Drew Johnson

Honda has announced the recall of 43,000 Acura RL sedans. The recall — which affects 2005-2008 model year cars — is due to a faulty power steering hose that can crack and leak fluid onto the catalytic converter, possibly leading to fire.

Earlier this year, Honda recalled 182,756 Civic sedans, making it one of the most recalled automakers of 2007.

Despite the recent recalls, Honda still maintains one of the lowest recall rates in the industry.

Once again, the superiority of honda is proven. Let this forever stand as evidence that unless a car is a Honda, it is not perfect.

Lmfo, 43000 RL’s? Isn’t that the entire production of this low selling pseudo-luxury piece of trash?

Ahh, poor Jap-loving people. First their Toys broke, now their Hondas. What’s left? Nissan? Actually no, because that is a 100% French company according to 1115 so because Renault and Nissan own some of each others shares, Nissan is French and so is Renault. What’s left then? Mazda? Noo, that is owned by Ford. How about Suzuki? Mmm GM still has a 3% share so that company is also infected with bad American quality. Wow. This is really sad.

illwill: come on, the RL is the greatest cxar EVER! ONly honda makes true luxury cars.

This just proves once again, it’s a FACT that Japanese cars never break down in any way ever — unless a frenchman walks past the factory. And even then, a honda will just close in on itself and improve its own quality beyond perfection.

You’ll never see a POS faux-luxury Aura variant earning this headline! Liars!

Honda Motor Company appreciates everyone’s concern for its future. It still looks good. The only company that improved sales in US so far this year.
I am not surprised that quality of RL is worse then Accord. Accord is produced in huge numbers compare to RL or any other Acura model (except TSX – another Accord). All premium, low volume cars have issues. It still appears that Honda has the lowest number of issues (per CR and other press).

autonut: the quality of the RL and accord is the same: Perfect plus perfect equals perfect. don’t be fooled by those lying GM and Ford odometers! Thos cars are excrement. Only way to tell if your car is any good is to look at the steering wheel. An “H” or and “A” means it’s great. As long as the bar on the “H” is sort of low.

Htay: better than EVERYBODY! Benz, BMW, Rolls, Boeing, Whirlpool, Apple …

as an Acura fan I can say the RL is a failure. But the SH-AWD technology isn’t. But with the NSX’s V10 coming and Honda wanting V8s the future looks promising.

jjt, I don’t know if RL is pinnacle of perfection, but Honda has been a success story for the past 30 years. 31 years ago when they introduced Accord as a coupe and had 150 dealers on 2 coasts unknown and untested car was a hit and was compared to BMW 2002, although it was FWD and had 75% of power of BMW 2002 and 50% of 2002tii. When BMW came out with 320i, Honda won that debate. Honda did not pretend to compete in straight line with Chicken or ‘Cuda.
Fast forward 30 years and what Honda achieved is pretty amazing. Plymouth is gone and Pontiac resells cars from down under. Considering that Honda started from bicycle shop against the wishes of its own government, it is pretty mazing Cinderella story. Granted it is not American Cinderella, but original Cinderella does not have American roots either.

JackJimTurkey- see Commodore and illwill’s posts….I rest my case. I find it funny that people are dying to see these foreign recalls. If it were American, they would be crying foul, blaming “the Man”, and of course, somehow the foreign car makers.

LOL thats just like the Corvettes roof flying off and the recent recall of the GM small trucks

ts a minor problem that the Acura dealerships will fix unlike Gm who waits years for recalls and then comes up with excuses not to fix them

Honda is still the more reliable superior vehicle when compared to the Americans. Despite the recent recalls, Honda still maintains one of the lowest recall rates in the industry.
When GM has a recall its a usual occurrence when Honda has one its a shocker which is why you jack offs are trying to make it a big deal

Despite the RL not being a good seller due to the lack of a V8 it still holds it value more so than a comparable American counterpart. The RL will probably be my next car and its still a better choice than any GM Ford or Chrysler.
I
BTW I saw a Saturn Aura on the side of the road I didnt see any body damage. Yes the owner could have ran out of gas but judging from Gm’s track record it was more than likely broken down
To date I have seen one Malibu on the road and at least 3 accords per day Malibu and GM truly are inferior to the Japanese

tripleonefive- I can’t stop laughing, I’m sorry come again!

Here you go with the Corvette roof flying off again… For this one moment, I am going to do like Toyota does, take the plate and… blame it on the supplier! Yup, it wasn’t GM’s problem, regardless if it was one of their workers, or their devious evil paws that got a hold of some glue, a plastic sheet and a Corvette! No way!

Yes, I see the guiding light now that spawns from your wisdom… I suppose having oil leaking all over your engine and possibly leading to a fire isn’t that bad after all! I mean, most of us only have a few kids and friends, sometimes dogs and a few thousand dollars invested into the car, what’s the big deal there? But you’ve opened my eyes, lives aren’t worth that much according to you… you should consider working for the FDA.

And for 10 grand more, I suppose it’s better than a Ford, GM or Chrysler. But I bet it isn’t as good as a BMW, Mercedes Benz or Audi, all of which have 6 cylinders as major sellers, for about 2 grand more in base form, and many more options to choose from.

Hoosierhero- Look at past recall pages about GM and Chrysler, and see what’s there. It’s not a bunch of “fanboys” screaming foul.
