Hmmm, you think monkeys are THAT smart? I don't know ... I see a lot of similarities here.

If that's the look you're after, then yes, you should have bought a 2001 L200. Oh well, you get another chance at a new one in 2008 with Honda. Thank your lucky stars. Either way, attractive will not be an adjective for your purchase.

No, Impulsive.
He's not smart enough to think like a monker. maybe a squirrel or a pigeon, but not a monkey.

I should've bought a saturn instead of a honda years ago.

'jjt', if it thinks like one, acts like one, and posts like one ... it ain't nuthin' but one.

Oh, one more thing about the new Accord sedan besides its messed up front end ... it looks like a Saturn L200 from the side ... another reason it is unattractive by any OBJECTIVE measure. And that's FACT, jack.

No desperation, fish brain. Just plain FACTS. Sorry you can't accept that, chump. Just understand that the world is filled with a lot of your type, and watching you fight with the other monkeys over which is better, asian or domestic, is pathetic AND entertaining. Just like a bunch of monkeys in a cage at the zoo. Loving it.

To simplify the basic concept that seems to be flying over some people's heads ... I post my OPINION (my belief, judgment, conclusion) which equates to being OBJECTIVE (having existence or reality, uninfluenced or undistorted by emotion, prejudice or bias) which equates to FACT (reality, truth, a matter of objective reality).

SUBJECTIVELY, none of you will agree because you cannot grasp the basic foundation of what I've just explained to you. But I don't care ... what you think and present is the daily theatre I enjoy here.

'jjt', I have to buy from the same pool of cars everyone else does. I buy the best all-round package I can find that works for me. BUT, I will say gas mileage above 15mpg city is one criterion. Aesthetics is another, actually #1. I cannot and will not drive visually mediocre garbage. Resale, like I've stated, is for chumps. It's a comfort factor for poor people. As for your fondness for the new Accord, that's your choice. The front end, for me, is horrible.

'CA36GTP', You're right ... I apologize for being right ... and having opinions that are OBJECTIVE and FACTUAL. Dealing with your ilk, including '1115', is like dealing with people who believe white socks really match 'dress' attire. You're lost, plain and simple.

JJT - don't know/care what the official resale is on any vehicle at any point. When I am nearing sale time, I see what crap is going for and shoot for more than that. As for the F150 - a guy at work offered me the 14k cash 3 weeks ago. Not looking to sell but it is in line with what I have heard, seen in papers, and below what I have seen on windshields at used lots, plus my vehicle is extremely clean and well maintained, so I expect I can do better if I wanted to move it.

But I don't want to because .... it is a Ford, extremely reliable, looks great, no issues, gets good mileage, turns heads, I can haul stuff (necessary at my house) plus toss the mountain bike in the back in 3 seconds, and it holds value based on actual price better than a Honda or Bimmer from the same year. To get a new fruity fuel sipper might save 800/year maybe, but I'll have to drop an EASY 12k additional to save that 800/year, which a foolish return when you consider the additonal 12k would disappear in value within 4 years, so I could be 1115 and lose 12,000 to save 3,200 because the Honda guy said so. Duhhh.

BTW - the new Accord does look better than the outgoing model by a ton, but that crease up the side is so deep it almost looks like a long gouge. Still pretty generic though, and I'd take a Sonata (and 7k saved in my pocket) over it if I were buying this afternoon.

Impulsive: what value do you put on having a car you actually want?

These residual numbers are hypothetical at best.

I consider the honda GL and its ilk attractive, as well as the new accord. The H-Pilot is not ugly.

Fluffer: you don't "hodl" on well to the English language.

You said american consumers prefer japanese cars. By what measure? I'm laying in wait for your ass to say something dumb.

CA36: You're better off with a Pontiac, theoretical resale value be damned.

R-Head: Good logic, but I'd take it one step further. Y'ever sell a used car? Do you get the "official" resale value?

L-88: Two different companies.

Impulsive: I agree that Nissan/Datsun are more attractive and interesting cars than toyonda and their faux-luxury divisions.
I'd also say that they're better cars

'CA36GTP', don't apologize for me ... apologize for yourself. Way to generalize like '1115'. And you might want to apologize for another generalization posted above ... "... insomnia-curing Toyota and Nissan" ... Toyota, yes. Nissan, no. The Nissan line is more attractive than both Honda's and Toyota's. But we now know you have no taste or judging abilities ... thanks.

'1115', I didn't expect someone like you with no taste to understand the difference between OBJECTIVE and SUBJECTIVE ... your bias is clouding your judgment that these Hondas are NOT leaders in design, and in fact unattractive, and only sell because of reputation, not aesthetics.

I posted nothing of resale or reliability and their relation to facts, loser. Why are you posting lies? The FACT is these cars are not head-turners ... just bland, futuristic crap that will become evident in years to come. Nobody talks about their Honda in an aesthetics perspective, only that "it's been reliable" ... pathetic.

Your point about holding value is like calculating rate of change ... it only applies at a specific point in time and so you are looking at a rear view mirror event. You have ZERO clue as to whether this benefit will continue going forward. And NO, the past isn't always foretelling of the future.

As for my financial health ... you have no idea who I am or what I'm worth. You have no idea about attractive cars. You have no idea that residual and resale values are for chumps, since you are one, and poor people ... that's a selling point for the masses, not for all. And that's the difference between people like you and me. That's FACT.

I'm not here to convince you of anything. I couldn't care less what you drive, social camouflage or not. I'm only posting FACT ... do what you will with your money ... I know what I'm doing with mine.

Impulsive is right about resale, and 1115 - lease resale numbers are a bit different. I'll explain that in a sec.

Impulsive, like I, would rather save money on the purchase and smack that cash into an investment and score off it for years to come (rest of my life, basically). Problem is the average dumb-ass American is in debt to his/her ears (negative national savings rate) to placate the "inferiority complex du jour" so the average person has no cash left over for investment anyway, so they fall for the BS line of "it's worth more in the end" that 1115 and car salesmen spew. Yeah, it is worth more - you pay 5k more now for something that's worth 3k more later .... uhhhhh smart move.

1115, you gotta remember that resale percentage stats are based on MSRP, not actual purchase price. My 5-year old F150 is a good example. Rough real numbers: MSRP 32k (it's decked), post incentive new price paid 24k, current value 14k. Your statistical resale is below 44%, my actual resale is above 58%. People who lease tend to pay a lot closer to MSRP on average than cash/loan purchasers, so that 44% is what a leasing company looks at. As a buyer I look at my out-of-pocket, so only the 58% is relevant to me. It's basically a wash as I have said, because based on actual price paid there is very little difference in resale percentages.

But hey 1115 - you go right ahead and get your financial advice from a honda car salesman. They'll never steer you wrong ...... right? No no no ... not a honda salesman.

1115, that's exactly the situation today though, isn't it? Regardless of the current quality of domestic vehicles, consumers have to be CONVINCED to try them out. I think GM more so than Ford or Chrysler has had some success doing that lately, but many are still burned by their experience with an unreliable 90s junkpile. That's what I mean when I say that resale values are largely based on a bias stemming from the 1980s and 1990s.

I have been largely impressed by the strides GM has made since the turn of the century, especially since 2004, and the catch-up game continues. I think by 2010 it will be hard NOT to look at GM when in the market for a new car. But it's all about previous perception, and that's going to be an uphill battle for some time.

I went into the market for my first new car expecting to find it in an Acura dealership. I ended up with a Pontiac in the garage. Anything can happen.

1115, Hondas are unattractive, OBJECTIVELY ... the fact that you think they are "great looking" proves you have bad taste in cars. You and the countless folks who buy these visually anonymous modes of transportation. That's FACT. Also FACT, residual values are for chumps. Chumps like you who have little to no money who overpay for a car like a Civic and brag that it's worth more than others 5 years later. All the while, I'm driving something an order of magnitude better than your Civic blind to the concept of residuals because I'm making silly sums of money in my investments. I couldn't care less whether your Civic is worth a couple of grand more a few years later. It's so ugly, I couldn't care less if they sold it to me for 40% off. No thanks.

Actually, the fact that Saturn is considered above average just illustrates the worthlessness of these rankings. Saturn's cars are IDENTICAL to the offerings from Chevrolet and Pontiac, which are considered below average. Are we supposed to believe that a different plastic badge vastly alters a car's performance and reliability?

Residual Value rankings mean nothing right now because they are derived from bias, a bias stemming from the era of domestic failure in the 80s and 90s. The main factor that caused a depreciation of domestic cars exists today only in peoples' minds. Say what you will about domestic styling, but they simply do not fall apart like they used too.

The new Avenger will not collapse like the Intrepid did.

The G6 is leaps and bounds in quality over the Grand Am.

The G8 is an American monster taking over for the seriously declawed Grand Prix.

The Focus is no transmission-eating Probe.

And on and on...

I just wanted to share this with you idiots Notice where the American companies are

Automotive Lease Guide is preparing to announce its annual Residual Value Awards at The National Remarketing Conference today.

The awards include vehicles in each segment, which the company predicts will retain the highest percentage of their original price after a conventional three-year lease term.

The automaker that will take home the Industry Brand Residual Value Award is Honda for the fifth consecutive year.

Honda also received individual segment awards for the Accord in the midsize car category and the Odyssey in the minivan category. This will mark the seventh consecutive win for the Odyssey.

Meanwhile, Infiniti will receive the Luxury Brand Residual Value Award for the first time, which also means this is the first time any company other than BMW or Lexus has won the overall luxury award. Moreover, Infiniti will walk away with the Near Luxury segment award for its G35/G37.

As for Toyota, again it will receive the most segment Residual Value Awards, in addition to becoming runner-up for the Industry Brand Award.

Toyota received three segment awards: for the Avalon in the full-size cars category, the 4Runner in SUVs and the Tacoma in compact trucks. Officials said this will be the seventh consecutive win for the Tacoma and the fifth consecutive win for the 4Runner.

Volkswagen will win third place in the Industry Brand rankings, along with receiving an individual segment award for the Volkswagen EOS in the sports car category.

Moving on, BMW will take home two individual awards: for the 5 Series in the luxury car segment, and the 6 Series in the luxury sports car segment.

Among domestic manufacturers, the Jeep Wrangler will grab the segment award for Compact SUVs for the second consecutive year, and the GMC/Chevy Sierra/Silverado will also win for the second year in a row in the full-size truck category.

"The 2008 awards prove once again that compelling design, high quality manufacturing and disciplined pricing and volume programs are essential to achieve the highest residual value," explained John Blair, ALG's chief executive officer.

"Honda, Toyota, Lexus and BMW continue to show leadership. In addition, Infiniti should be applauded for substantially increasing their residual values over the past several years. They have shown steady improvement and the new G35/37 put them over the top," he continued.

"Residual value continues to be the best metric for determining the health of an automotive brand, and the winners deserve a great deal of credit for their products and sales strategies," Blair highlighted.

This year's awards are based on 2008 model-year vehicles. According to officials, the awards are derived after careful study of segment competition, historical vehicle performance and industry trends.
