I wonder when Motor Trend is going to move their offices to Japan? I think they’d like it better there. They put American cars on the cover to attract buyers, then bad mouth them inside. It’s a pitiful magazine.

Honda does NOT make a light truck. All of their SUVs and their pickup are based on their car platforms. The other anti American publication, Consumer Reporsts can be thanked for that bit of information.

Well, this is a pleasant surprise!! Awwww, poor Honda, car sales down…well the sun might not be able to come up anymore. Breaks my heart.

By the way, Honda doesn’t make a truck. They are all car platform based vehicles. The Ridgeline is a pickup car. See Consumer Reports.

I dont fully get the truck numbers, but I do get the cars….

The Accord looks like a sleeper next to the Camry. The damn thing could just as well be an old Buick, it is that boring.

Civics are a different story. They are good cars (although the new sedan looks retarded) but the dealers are too in love with them, I think. When dealers are asking $3k over sticker it pushes the alternatives into a whole different ballpark, with base Civics now comparable to well-equiped Camrys or decked out Fusions, MX6s, G6s, and now the Saturn Aura. Faced with that choice I’d flip for any of the alternatives to the Civic. I know people are buying them, but those are the contingent that thinks Honda can do no wrong, which generally speaking is reasonably accurate but when it comes to specifically overpaying up to $5k of my money Honda can kiss my back door.

Did Honda have a big sale last August that would explain the big drop this year? It is so backwards that the RSX, Insight & SUVs are increased while the Accord is down — by almost 30%.

The Civic & Fit are impossible to get in my area as well.

Despite this past month, Honda sales are fine; Acura, on the other hand needs serious help. I am not gonna scream about RWD & V8 like a lot of people but there other things they can do. More options would be nice: not just customizing a car instead of all coming fully loaded but more models would be nice. @ the very least, they should offer a 5 year warranty that @ least matches Hyundai — that should help sales while hopefully not costing Honda much based upon their relability.

Hopefully their next generation of engines will be out soon & will deliver the power & mileage needed to compete w/ the latest from Toyota.

Why can’t Honda get RWD on the Acuras. A purist would by-pass the Ac in a heartbeat for a BMW, Infiniti, and the like. Get with it Honda. I love my Integra for quality reasons but when I trade up it won’t be for a TL, love the looks, but the 3 or G35 has my eye.

I suspect the growth in the light trucks is coming from Ford/GM/Dodge buyers still wanting an SUV or truck but wanting to get better fuel economy. The drop in cars is very interesting. By the way, the Odyssey is likely included in the light truck group.

Then people complain about the high gas prices. If you buy an SUV over a car, you’re gonna get worse milage.

I recently bought a Civic EX coupe, and all I can say is that I’ve never been happier. The Civic, they purposely don’t build as many. It’s Car of the Year, and this way, they build up demand. I went back to the dealer with my friend to pick up my plate, and employees were showing potential buyers MY car becuase they had no others on the site. And this place is huge.

I wonder if it’s a low supply problem… in my area at least, and from what I’ve heard on the forums, the new Civics and Fits are impossible to get, as they’re sold out before they even arrive in the showrooms. The Accord on the other hand is in its last year of this model, so low sales are expected. Same goes for the S2000. And the Insight is done. What else is there?

Yaris is selling amazingly well, I’m surprised Fit sales are so low, unless sales are being restricted. I am shopping for a second car and my list came down to Rabbit and Civic coupe. In the end I chose rabbit because it felt special and you can add Options and not just dealer installed accessories.

Toyota has a vice grip on the appliance market, if Honda wishes to continue to grow they must follow the American makers example of trying to win buyers over by appealing to emotions and style, as well as Honda retaining and enriching their reliability and engineering reputation.

Very mixed reports for car sales this month. SUVs up for Acura but cars down. SUVS down for BMW car sales somewhat ok.

Very interesting market we are in right now.

And yes the Element, Ridgeline, CRV and Pilot or light trucks. I don’t think the Odssey is considered a light truck although I guess by the EPA classification it is.

Hondas used to sparkle, Toyota does the white good thing so much better. WHat happened to prelude and the other more interesting Hondas. I like the new Civic, I’m sure its better than COrolla but I have European sensibilities, and the Camry is better than the Accord.
