"Racing in NASCAR is like racing in the special olympics. You may win the race, but you're still retarded."

NASCAR is a completely overrated driving sport. The cars are built to pretty much the same spec, and are forced to drive a circle until a bunch crash and a winner emerges. If you want to see nasty crashes, skilled driving, and true performance, watch a rally race or drift show. NASCAR is a redneck sport.

It's simpler than that. Honda's character just doesn't match NASCAR. I think fans of any motorsport would agree. Honda's cars have traditionally been lighter, with small and high-revving engines. They've kept that up even when it's meant shutting themselves out of certain markets or demographics. That means NASCAR as well.
I could see Nissan joining in.

NASCAR is a natural phenomenon, like "the macarena", in that it is inexplicably stupid, yet it still exists. I personally think that anyone here sticking up for NASCAR snuck into the gene pool when the lifeguard wasn't looking.

Those of you out there that think that NASCAR epitomizes the racing spirit in cars...shut up. You're being silly, or maybe you're drunk, or inbred. NASCAR presents the most contrived racing environment in the world, outside of horse and hound-racing. NASCAR appeals to people who are entertained by loud noises, shiny metals and bright colours.

Like the mere existence of things like "the macarena", I am baffled at the number of supports that NASCAR draws. I can't look forward enough to the day when (not if, when) NASCAR is extinct, as a result of global fuel concerns, genetic diseases caused by inbreeding, and alcohol-related ailments. Or (I'm not counting on this one) maybe redneck America will just wake up one day and realize that in the time that they've spent watching NASCAR - they could have been defending their culture/economy/future against Asian influences...like Honda for instance...holy shit!

Off topic, but I live about 15 minutes from California Speedway, and everytime NASCAR is in town I always find myself involved in a few road rage incidents (vulgar language and gestures, I dont do stupid things with my car) with all of the hicks that come out here, angry because me and my 40 year-old VW beetle wont let them tailgate or cut me off. It almost always ends up with someone driving off attempting to do a peg-leg burnout with his truck or Chrystler 300. Cant let those damn'd mexican kids and their german cars make Tom Patriot keep from pretending he's Jeff Gordon!

NASCAR is boring. It is all about the Cult of personality today. Nothing about the cars like in the old days. It's a wasted of time and the technology is antiqueted. Carbureted V8 with 4 speeds? Yeah. Honda is right it's old.

True; making fun of NASCAR is very easy...Nascar somehow reminds me of the american car-industry: It's stuck in the beerdrinking, donut-dunkin' dino-age where the biggest tecnological leap forward probably was inventing "Miss Wet T-shirt". Sure enough, they go fast, but they just go round and round in circles untill they eventually crash...Which, of course, is amusing... ;-)

F1 Drivers and Constructors (such as Honda) race at that ulra high technological plain to "improve the breed." Their technologies eventually trickles down to automotive industry. NASCAR can't say the same because it's stuck in the dino age, evident by their financially and technologically troubled manufacturers, GM and Ford.

Well, about time someone ignored the NASCAR mess. Back when you could actually identify the cars and possibly buy one on Monday that you saw win on Sunday is when it last mattered. I really don't see what the draw is, and I've been to a race in person. The noise and power is awesome, but not something I need to experience more than once every 10 years.

A Honda engine, however, is a thing of beauty, regardless of whether its in a Saturn Vue or my lawnmower. I aspire to one someday - hopefully wrapped by an Acura TL. Given my druthers, I'd take the 2.4 DOHC in the Accord as well - pure fun, high-tech, low maintenance.

I don't need no stinkin' V-8.

It just amazes me that some people can actually compare NASCAR to F-1. They are two different leagues. For those people that don't understand what F-1 is all about, it is about competition in two fronts: Engineers, and Drivers. That is why you have constructors championship and Drivers championship. When a car goes out on a race track, the entire engineering team of the team is pitted against the other teams, so are the drivers. Since you have engineers competiting you basically having a perfect breeding ground for innovation and engineers will go at length to have the ultimate technology. F-1 teams no doubt are at the fore-front of technology and NASCAR unfortunately is just a garage show.

wow... you all dont see the point of nascar at all... its not bout which company can spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year to get another hundreth of a second, its about actually racing... the margin of victory at this weekends f1 race was over a second, yet johnson won the nextel cup race by only .045 seconds... last i remember there hasnt been a photo finish in f1 in about 20 years... f1 may have fancy ultra-high-tech cars but whats the point if the racing's a parade?

I love his quote. Subtle jab, but jab nonetheless. Honda involves itself with the apex of racing technology with F1 so why go towards something unsophisticated and antiquated as NASCAR?

Speaking of NASCAR, did you guys see where Jeff Gordon and some other NASCAR top driver visited the Jaguar Racing Team booth and Mark Webber in 2004? They were quiet but you could tell they were highly envious of such a structured, sophisticated, and technological team.

Well, Robert Clarke might be afraid to say it, but I'm not. NASCAR IS dumbed down technology or no technology at all. They drive in an oval at a pretty much constant speed and do so even in "trucks". They have large, inefficient engines, and really can't handle turns. How much more dumbed down can you get?

Oh yeah, their drivers are dumb hicks too

Let's see Honda's 2.4 V8 F1 car against a massive V8 NASCAR race car. I am pretty sure everyone knows what the outcome will be.

Raw NASCAR power can pwn Honda any day in a drag race. Let Honda play with their gas saving 2.0 liter engines. What a joke. Even the poorest American can afford a 6.2L V8, and the gas to run it. 10mpg? You forget this is America. Europe can save gas for us, and we'll use it.

I can see the point of Honda. NASCAR does not attract the same level of drive for innovation as F-1 or Moto GP. So why waste time and resources on something any guy with a garage can do. I enjoy Nascar racing but when it comes to technology it doesn't come close to 10% of what formula one offers.

oh i forgot - their Vtec is kewl. Be4 you guys complain about Ricer resorting to vtech, I think they were the first to utilize Valve Timing. Not only that but the Vtec concept with the two cram is nice. One cram for lower rpm while the 2nd one is locked on for higher rpm. Albiet I think the Ferrari have a very elegant way of doing this with one cram but they slide em.

I think they are working on a technology with infinite cram lob thingy.

That's pretty spectacular (if not in your mind)l in my mind i guess.

"they are a company that does everything acceptable and nothing spectacular"
actually they're company is all about engine first. They build a lot of engines for different type of transportation. I admire them for their engine technologies. Getting about 250 out of a inline four banger is pretty neat. Their NSX was pretty neat just bloated in prices. Um..... their first try at a truck was tight they won motor trend. They were the first to produce a hybrid. Toyota was the first to mass produce hybrids tho. Um..... they're probably will be the first one (or the Japanese with Toyota) to bring hydrogen technology out. They stated they can bring it out in 4-5 years as for their American counter part have stated 10 years. I've seen BMW working hard on the technology but I don't know if they will beat the Japanese.

Yeah, mmmm what else. Their civic hatchback type R are cute. LOL. They're really good with FWD cars. Their engines are very very efficient.

Good for Honda. I couldn't see why they would want to get mixed up in NASCAR. Cast iron, single cam pushrod, carbureted eights aren't exactly in their heritage.

F1 is the way to go. Button came 4th by only a slight margin due to bad luck. Hopefully he will get in the podium next time.
